The Ghost Monument: Overnight Ratings

After last weekend’s record-breaking debut, Jodie Whittaker’s first Doctor Who series continues to perform strongly in the ratings.

The second episode ‘The Ghost Monument’ premiered last night (October 14), and drew in an overnight audience of 7.1 million, according to the BBC’s Lizo Mzimba.

While that’s a million less than last week’s premiere – ratings nearly always drop off after a series premiere – it’s still a pretty stellar draw for the show, proving that interest in the new Chris Chibnall series remains high.

Last week’s episode ‘The Woman Who Fell to Earth’ took in 8.2 million, beating the debuts of Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith and David Tennant.

No doubt episodes three and four will continue to draw in big audiences, and we’ve already been given a taster of their subjects.

Titled ‘Rosa’ and ‘Arachnids in the UK’, the episodes will focus on black civil rights campaigner Rosa Parks and arachnids stirring in Sheffield respectively.

Upcoming guest stars of the show will include the likes of Sherlock‘s Vinette Robinson, Sex and the City actor Chris Noth and Broadchurch‘s Julie Hesmondhalgh, as well as Alan Cumming and Lee Mack.

Doctor Who returns with episode 3 ‘Rosa’ on Sunday (October 21) on BBC One.
