Jo Martin and Sacha Dhawan enter the world of audio in brand-new audio dramas.

Big Finish Productions today announces a brand-new series of adventures for the Fugitive Doctor as played by actress Jo Martin and a brand-new series of full-cast audio dramas starring Sacha Dhawan as the Master.

The Fugitive Doctor Adventures

The Fugitive Doctor Adventures

First revealed on screen in the 2020 Doctor Who episode, FUGITIVE OF THE JUDOON, the Fugitive Doctor is a previously unseen incarnation of the Doctor who quickly established herself as a popular character with viewers. Now she’s back, as Jo Martin stars in six exciting new full-cast audio dramas, due to be released across two box sets.

“Big Finish do amazing work – they are a vital part of the fandom. I’m over the moon to be joining this iconic show. I can’t wait to see what stories they have in store for the Fugitive Doctor.”

Jo Martin THE FUGITIVE DOCTOR

Story details, writers and additional guest cast are being kept under wraps at present but Doctor Who fans worldwide can now pre-order both volumes, which are available in two formats – collector’s edition CD box sets or digital downloads – exclusively from the Big Finish website.

Big Finish Chairman, Jason Haigh-Ellery said: “I first met Jo Martin at a Doctor Who convention in February of this year, where she wowed the crowds with her enthusiasm for the programme and the role of the Fugitive Doctor.

“Her excitement was palpable – Jo obviously loves the role and we are so excited to create new adventures for her to star in. As the Fugitive Doctor herself once said, ‘You’re going to love this…’”

Producer David Richardson added: “What a privilege to be producing THE FUGITIVE DOCTOR ADVENTURES. There’s a whole era to explore in these stories that follow on from FUGITIVE OF THE JUDOON, and I can’t wait to start work with the gloriously talented and charismatic Jo Martin!”

Each of the two volumes in DOCTOR WHO – THE FUGITIVE DOCTOR ADVENTURES will be released as a 3-disc collector’s edition box set or download containing three brand-new full cast audio adventures, plus a selection of behind-the-scenes extras.

THE FUGITIVE DOCTOR ADVENTURES marks the first in a range of spin-offs from the Thirteenth Doctor’s era of Doctor Who at Big Finish, with more new series to follow…

Call Me Master

Call Me Master

Hard on the heels of the announcement of Big Finish’s new THE FUGITIVE DOCTOR ADVENTURES comes news of another spin-off Doctor Who series, CALL ME MASTER.

Sacha Dhawan, who has played the latest incarnation of the Master on TV since 2020 and is due to appear in the Thirteenth Doctor’s final story later this year, will reprise the role in six new adventures on audio.

“I absolutely adore working with the fantastic team at Big Finish. So, when they asked me to play the Master in his own series, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse! The Master is such a joy to play on so many levels! I can’t wait to see what he’s going to be getting up to without the Doctor around to hold him back! Hold onto your seats, folks…!”

Sacha Dhawan THE MASTER

Big Finish Chairman, Jason Haigh-Ellery added: “Sacha Dhawan is already part of the family at Big Finish, having guest-starred in a number of Doctor Who and Torchwood audio dramas since 2014.

“Sacha’s enthusiasm for the Master knows no bounds – we are so excited to work with him and his rather unhinged alter ego at Big Finish.  It’s going to be a hell of a ride!”

Producer Heather Challands agreed: “Sacha’s Master was iconic from the moment he revealed himself to the audience. His performance has such charisma, such madness and can turn on a dime.

“I’m beyond thrilled and honoured to be the producer that gets to bring this incarnation of the Master to Big Finish listeners. It’s going to be very fun getting to peel back the layers and find out just what makes this Master tick…”

Each of the two volumes in CALL ME MASTER will be released as a 3-disc collector’s edition box set or download containing three brand-new full cast audio adventures, plus a selection of behind-the-scenes extras. Both volumes are available now to pre-order as a collector’s edition CD box set or digital download, exclusively from the Big Finish website.

The Fugitive Doctor Adventures and Call Me Master are now available to pre-order exclusively on the Big Finish website.

A Rose for Valentine’s Day?

A Rose for Valentine’s Day?

A Rose for Valentine’s Day

This October, the multi-award-winning Billie Piper returns to the world of Doctor Who as Rose Tyler in the first of two brand-new box sets of full-cast audio adventure, The Dimension Cannon.

Set after the events of the television story, Doomsday, this spin-off drama series follows the exploits of Rose, her friends and family, trapped in another dimension on a parallel Earth. With her world doomed and a universe at stake, Rose must continue her frantic search for the only person who can help… the Doctor.

Joining Billie Piper in the cast of Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon is co-star Camille Coduri, reprising her role as Rose’s mum, Jackie Tyler, and Mark Benton as Clive Finch.

Both volumes, Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon Volume 2 — Other Worlds and Volume 3 — Trapped are now available to pre-order as collector’s edition box sets (on CD + download for just £19.99 per volume) or digital download only (for just £16.99 per volume).

Billie Piper said: “The Dimension Cannon is such a brilliant idea and gives Rose a lot more life beyond the Doctor. But there’s also something quite sad about her search. It’s a real bitter-sweet series of tales.

“I’m delighted for the fans to receive these new adventures. It’s something they talk to me about just as much as the episodes I appeared in on TV. It seems like there’s an enormous appetite for it and it’s very moving to imagine listeners spending a few more moments with this family particularly.”

Producer Emily Cook added:

“Rose was my gateway into Doctor Who, my first companion, and I adored her. I still do. So safe to say it’s an absolute joy – both on a personal and professional level – to take on producing two more volumes of The Dimension Cannon. I’m such a fan of this series.

“In addition to producing, I had the privilege of writing one of the scripts (my first for Big Finish). There’s such a responsibility when writing for Billie because she’s a phenomenal actor, particularly in terms of her ability to convey raw emotion. That’s something I really wanted to tap into with these stories.

“As with Doctor Who itself, the possibilities for The Dimension Cannon are endless. There are so many potential parallel worlds out there for us to explore and I can’t wait for fans to hear where we go next.”

Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon Volume 2 — Other Worlds is now available to pre-order for just £19.99 (as a 3-disc collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £16.99 (download only).

Big Finish listeners can save money by buying volumes two and three of Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon together in a bundle for £38 (as a CD + download) or £33 (download only).

All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.

Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

Peter Davison reunites with old friends in Fifth Doctor special from Big Finish

Peter Davison reunites with old friends in Fifth Doctor special from Big Finish

Two of Davison’s former co-stars are among the guest cast for a celebratory adventure.

'Doctor Who': 'Tomb Ship' (Big Finish 186) audio story review

January 2022 will mark 40 years since the Fifth Doctor’s era began on Doctor Who and, to mark the occasion, Big Finish are reuniting actor Peter Davison with two former colleagues – though not from his days on the BBC sci-fi series.

Doctor Who: The Fifth Doctor Adventures – “Forty” will celebrate four decades of Davison’s Doctor and will feature Christopher Timothy and Barbara Flynn among its guest cast.

Davison and Timothy both appeared in BBC One’s All Creatures Great and Small – playing Tristan Farnon and James Herriot respectively – between 1978 and 1990, while Flynn appeared opposite Davison in BBC Two’s A Very Peculiar Practice between 1986 and 1992 and in ITV sitcom Pat & Cabbage in 2013.

“Forty years of the Fifth Doctor is a big deal – Peter is the actor who changed the direction of the show forever, showing viewers for the first time that the Doctor could be portrayed as the wisdom of centuries within the body of a young man,” said producer David Richardson. “I love the whole Fifth Doctor era, so this was a party I was very keen to throw – and it seemed very fitting that the guest stars should be memorable figures from Peter’s career outside of Doctor Who, from other major TV series in which he has starred.”

Davison himself added: “I did ask if we could get some good names in the stories, and I was looking at some of the other Doctors doing their stories and they had very impressive cast lists. I wanted to get up there! Had I known Chris wanted to be in it, of course I would have suggested his name!

“All Creatures Great and Small was my big break. We had a meeting at Television Centre in London, and I knew of everyone else in the programme apart from Carol Drinkwater. We all met and I was terribly, terribly nervous, and I was introduced by the producer to Chris, who immediately said, ‘Too tall, recast!’

“I didn’t think he was serious, and it was obviously a joke, but then I thought, what if the producer thinks he’s serious and goes, ‘Oh, he is too tall? We’d better recast!’?” I really thought [producer] Bill Sellars, being terribly serious, with this was the first meeting of all the cast, would take it seriously.”

Doctor Who: Forty

“It was my big break too! It was meant to create a unity between myself and this young actor I’d just met!” said Timothy.

“All through Doctor Who’s life, when it was on, particularly when Peter was playing the Doctor, I was asking myself, why haven’t they asked me to be in it, and to this day, I still don’t understand!”

Doctor Who: The Fifth Doctor Adventures – “Forty” will finally right that wrong, with Timothy appearing in The Secrets of Telos as Professor Parry – a role originally played by the late Aubrey Richards in 1967 television story The Tomb of the Cybermen.

Flynn – who also recently appeared in Doctor Who: Flux on television as Tecteun – will play Professor Vansom in the new audio drama.

“I spent my entire time being intimidated by Barbara on In A Very Peculiar Practice!” revealed Davison. “But I always loved it when people came up to me and said they enjoyed A Very Peculiar Practice – it was always slightly left-field.

“People would usually say I watched you in Doctor Who or All Creatures, so Peculiar Practice was a particular taste. Anyone who went to university at that time thinks it was based on their university. It was one of those things where you get a script and you don’t want to change a line.”

“In A Very Peculiar Practice, I was the more assured personality, and in Pat and Cabbage, the situations were reversed – Peter was the more assured personality and I was the dithering idiot!” said Flynn. “It’s always great to work with Peter. It’s been a delight working on Doctor Who, it’s such a phenomenon.”

Alongside Davison’s former cast-mates, ex-EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite will also appear in the special celebratory adventure as a character named Morton.

Doctor Who: The Fifth Doctor Adventures – Forty is out in January 2022 and is available to pre-order now as a CD or digital download from Big Finish.

Christopher Eccleston Big Finish Volume 2 Announcement

Christopher Eccleston said:

“Just before Christmas in 2020, I walked into a small recording studio in an industrial estate in North London. Me and the sound engineer looked at each other and we smiled and say, ‘Let’s go!’ Then I started playing the Ninth Doctor again, and I loved it.

“It’s been one of the great joys for me of the past year. It’s a lovely way to do it, so I’m coming back to record more.”

The second series of audio adventures will be made available in three formats – Collector’s Edition CD, digital download or limited-edition gatefold triple LP vinyl.

The four new adventures are:

Inside the Maldorvarium

Jenny and Noah find a priceless item up for auction at a disreputable venue – with an even less trustworthy owner. Dorium Maldovar might seem pleased to see them, but what’s his real agenda? Is Jenny here by chance, or is someone spinning a web…?

Altered Status

On a utopian world, the perfect society toils towards its worthy ‘Cause’. But the hard-working Suits are more than they seem, and the Department Head is something else altogether. And when Jenny and Noah scratch the surface, they find silver underneath. The Cybermen are coming…

Calamity Jenny

When Noah and Jenny mosey on into the Old West, it’s surely a coincidence that Jenny looks exactly like the town’s most notorious outlaw. But as they’ll discover, anyone who crosses ‘Calamity Jenny’ suffers an unlucky fate – and it’s usually fatal.

Her Own Worst Enemy

Jenny wants bounty hunter cyborg Colt-5000 off their trail once and for all. Her plan involves cybertech founder Seavus Colt, time travel, and showing somebody the true value of their life. But the web of time can’t be pulled apart without a cost…

Georgia Tennant said:

“My favourite Who monster is the Cybermen – I did a school project on Doctor Who (unsurprisingly) when I was about 7 years old, and I specialised in the Cybermen, so her meeting them is a dream!

And her and Noah’s sibling relationship has developed in this series – they’ve got to know each other much better. Each has a quality the other one doesn’t have. Jenny’s a bit more reckless, and Noah’s a bit more steadfast and reliable.”

Tom Baker to star in audio adaptation of two lost Doctor Who scripts

Tom Baker to star in audio adaptation of two lost Doctor Who scripts

BBC One - Doctor Who, Season 12 - Tom Baker at 80

Tom Baker is set to reprise his role as the Fourth Doctor in Big Finish’s upcoming adaptations of lost Doctor Who episodes.

The two episodes – Doctor Who and the Ark and Daleks! Genesis of Terror – were written by screenwriter John Lucarotti and Terry Nation, creator of the Daleks, respectively and are set for release in March 2023.

Big Finish recently rediscovered the episodes’ original scripts and initial story outlines and will be adapting them into audio adventures as part of their series, Doctor Who – The Lost Stories.

A version of Doctor Who and the Ark originally aired in January 1975 as The Ark in Space, in which the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) and Harry Sullivan (Ian Marter) explored a space station overtaken by alien insects The Wirrn, while Nation’s story Genesis of the Daleks was broadcast in March, with the trio heading to Skaro to stop the creation of the Daleks.

Sadie Miller, daughter of Elisabeth Sladen, will play Sarah Jane Smith while Christopher Naylor voices Harry Sullivan.

“This is something very special: Doctor Who archaeology brought thrillingly to life,” producer Simon Guerrier said in a statement.

“The Ark in Space and Genesis of the Daleks are among the best-loved TV stories ever. We’ve uncovered first draft scripts by John Lucarotti and Terry Nation that are exciting, surprising and very different.”

“Genesis is a very visual script packed with striking, stark images – Nation even makes the stage directions exciting. In Doctor Who and the Ark, the directions were more functional so Jonathan Morris has carefully adapted the script for audio. Though we’ve kept the original episode titles, such as ‘Puffball’ and ‘Camelias’ – I think Tom Baker enjoyed recording those! Oh, and wait till you hear that cliffhanger.”

Doctor Who and the Ark and Daleks! Genesis of Terror are both available for pre-order as a collector’s edition four-disc box set on the Big Finish website.

Martha Jones gets her own series of audio adventures

Martha Jones gets her own series of audio adventures

She’s Doctor Martha Jones, who the hell are you? Freema Agyeman returns in her own triumphant trio of audio adventures, to be released in December 2021.

After more than a decade away from the TARDIS, the Tenth Doctor’s companion, Martha Jones, is returning to the world of Doctor Who, in a brand-new box set of full-cast audio drama from Big Finish Productions.

Freema Agyeman as Dr Martha Jones

Set between the 2007 TV episodes The Sound of Drums and The Last of the Time Lords, these new stories explore the year that Martha (Freema Agyeman) spent travelling the Earth, warning humanity about the Master and spreading hope with tales of her friend, the Doctor.

Also featuring in these adventures is Martha’s mum, Francine Jones, with legendary British actress Adjoa Andoh reprising the role she played on screen.

The three stories are:

The Last Diner by James Goss

Silver Medal by Tim Foley

Deceived by Matt Fitton

Producer David Richardson said:

“I love Martha Jones and I love tales of an apocalyptic Earth, so when we secured Freema for this box set I was immediately drawn to the idea of Martha’s year on an Earth subjugated by the Master. The Doctor has lost! The Jones family in peril! Toclafane sweeping the skies, and a mission to travel the world, sharing tales of a Time Lord who defeats the monsters. There was so much dramatic potential in this story world and our writers have had a lot of fun with that.”

Freema Agyeman in studio as Martha

Freema Agyeman added:

“We really didn’t know what Martha was going through during that year on Earth – we see her embark on it, and we see the conclusion of it, but it’s so interesting to really see her as an ordinary person, trying to do extraordinary things. She has incredible independence and strength so I think she can rely on that, but it’s been great to see how she does ebb and flow throughout that journey.”

You can pre-order The Year of Martha Jones ahead of its release in December 2021 from Big Finish now
