Part-missing adventure ‘The Celestial Toymaker’ to be completed with new animation

Part-missing adventure ‘The Celestial Toymaker’ to be completed with new animation

The Celestial Toymaker

THE CELESTIAL TOYMAKER will be returning as an animation and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray, coming soon.

The two-disc set contains the third season story as well as special features. This classic series stars the First Doctor, William Hartnell and companions Peter Purves as Steven Taylor and Jackie Lane as Dodo Chaplet, with Michael Gough as the Toymaker.

Fans of Doctor Who have long lamented the loss of the original 1966 master recordings of all except one of THE CELESTIAL TOYMAKER. BBC Studios have carefully created an animated presentation of this lost classic story using off-air audio recordings of the missing three episodes.

The Celestial Toymaker sees the Doctor and companions separated when they come up against the Toymaker. While the Doctor plays the Trilogic Game, Steven and Dodo are forced to play seemingly childish but ultimately dangerous games with the aim of being reunited and getting back to the TARDIS.

All episodes have been animated in both colour and black and white and include original film elements which have been fully restored.

Special features include:

Disc One

  • Episodes 1-4 – Animation – Black and White
  • Episodes 1-3 – Reconstruction
  • Episode 4 – Original 1966 Episode newly restored
  • New Audio Commentaries

Disc Two

  • Episodes 1-4 – Animation – Colour
  • Making The Animation

Missing adventure ‘Galaxy Four’ to be animated in 2021

Missing adventure ‘Galaxy Four’ to be animated in 2021

Galaxy Four, the mostly-missing serial starring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, has been given the animation treatment.

It will be released on 15th November 2021 on DVD, Blu-ray and as an exclusive Steelbook this year, filling another gap in missing Doctor Who episodes.

Doctor Who - Galaxy 4

Galaxy 4 (alternatively spelled Galaxy Four) is the mostly-missing first serial of the third season of Doctor Who, which originally aired in four weekly episodes from 11th September to 2nd October 1965.

Audio-only recordings of all four episodes have survived from this classic story, and have been used to create a brand new, fully animated story, filling the gaps alongside the original surviving Episode 3 and over five minutes of original footage from the otherwise lost Episode 4.

The Doctor and his travel companions, Vicki and Steven land the TARDIS on a planet which is on the verge of total annihilation, as it drifts too close to the three suns it orbits. Trapped on the planet with them are the Drahvins, a race of warrior women, and the Reptillian Rills.

The Drahvins want to steal the Rills spacehip to escape the planet’s death throes, and enlist the Doctor’s help, which he is forced to give when Maaga, the cunning Drahvin leader, keeps Vicki and Steven as hostage. Even though the Doctor is determined to broker a peace deal between the two sides, Maaga doesn’t trust him, or the Rills…

This two disc release gives fans the opportunity to enjoy the four new animated episodes of Galaxy Four in either colour or black and white. The release will also include:

  • Remastered surviving original footage of Episode 3
  • Remastered surviving clip from Episode 1
  • Telesnap reconstructions of Episodes 1, 2 and 4.
  • Audio commentaries
  • A Making Of documentary
  • Finding Galaxy 4 documentary
  • Photo gallery
  • Production subtitles

The Faceless Ones Comes To Bluray in 2020!

The Gallifreyan Newsroom has learned today that the classic Patrick Troughton story “The Faceless Ones” is currently being animated for a Blu-ray / DVD release, although the exact date of release isn’t known, according to the official BBC YouTube channel it states:

“Missing Doctor Who adventure The Faceless Ones is to be animated in 2020”

Even without a release date hasn’t detoured some online stores such as Zoom listing it for pre-order.

Zoom has stated:

“We’re massive Whovians, here at Zoom, and we’d like to consider ourselves your one-stop shop for all Doctor Who related goodness, DVDs, Blu-rays, Steelbooks and more! The Faceless Ones is the mostly missing eighth serial of the fourth season in Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in six weekly parts from April to May 1967. Starring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor, the story concerns a race of identity-stealing aliens known as the Chameleons.

Only two of the six episodes are held in the BBC film archives with snippets of footage and still images existing from the other four. Off-air recordings of the soundtrack also still exist, making the animation of a complete serial possible once again.

The six new animated episodes are being made in full colour and high definition. The DVD/Blu-ray release will also include surviving archive material from the original 1967 production.
Also starring:

Anneke Wills – Polly
Michael Craze – Ben Jackson
