Chris Chibnall could be shaking up the format of Doctor Who

Doctor Who is set to undergo a major revamp which could shake up the way episodes are written, it has been reported.

Stories for the family series could be put together by a team of writers under the tenure of incoming show runner Chris Chibnall.
The writers room, which is used widely across American television, could be brought in for Doctor Who.

Broadchurch creator Chris is said to have been “discussing numerous ideas” in which the show could be scripted, according to the Radio Times.
The BBC is said to have approached union the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain to discuss a new way of scripting the episodes.

“If it’s what the BBC wants and it’s what the writers want it then it’s fine by us,” said union secretary Bernie Corbett.
However a BBC spokesperson said: “It’s still very early days and no fixed model has been decided upon yet. Chris Chibnall as the new showrunner will write his own episodes and is currently exploring different ways of working with new and established writers on the show.”

He is no stranger to Doctor Who and has penned a number of episodes, including Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three.

Chris also served as a writer on the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, which starred John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness.Steven, 54, took over from Russell T. Davies and during his tenure introduced the 11th Doctor – played by Matt Smith – and also saw Peter Capaldi come on board as his successor.

Although there will be no series of Doctor Who this year, Steven has scripted the Christmas special and the 10th run of the rebooted series.
He will also be scribing the 2017 Christmas special before handing over the reins to Chris.
