Series 10 Slated to begin in April?

Doctor Who 10 Pearl Mackie Peter Capaldi Bill Twelfth Matt Lucas Nardole

Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi has revealed when the show’s new season will begin.

Season 10 began filming in Cardiff in June, with Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas joining the TARDIS as Bill and Nardole.

Chatting to fans this week while filming Episode 3, written by Sarah Dollard (‘Face the Raven’), Capaldi was asked: “When does the new series start?”

The actor responded: “We’re on at Christmas then it starts again in April.”

The BBC had previously only confirmed a vague “spring 2017” air date.

Of course, this is only a rough airdate – and is yet to be confirmed by the BBC, who tend not to officially announce these sorts of things till a few weeks prior to transmission.

But if we’re to trust Capaldi, then series 10 will be the first series of Doctor Who to launch in the spring since series six, which debuted back in April 2011.

It’d also mean that our 15-month break with no new series is more than halfway done… and we’ve got Christmas to look forward to.

Brave heart, guys.

Capaldi will star opposite new companion Pearl Mackie (playing Bill) and Matt Lucas (returning as Nardole), in what is Steven Moffat’s final series as showrunner.

They’ll be joined by guest stars including David Suchet – playing ‘The Landlord’ – and Ralf Little.
