PETER CAPALDI WILL GO SOLO IN THE SHOW’S MOST EXPERIMENTAL EPISODE EVER
Doctor Who will tackle what’s being billed as its “most experimental episode” ever as part of the new series.
Confirming recent rumours, Steven Moffat has announced that Peter Capaldi will star in a special ‘one hander’ episode – featuring no characters other than the Doctor.
But don’t blame recent BBC budget cuts – it’s actually a bold intentional move by the show’s creators.
“We always like a new challenge on the show,” Moffat said. “I can’t tell you too much about this, but it’s certainly unique and a big first for the show!”
Moffat, head writer and executive producer on the series, also hinted that the new 12-part series will include “urban thrillers, underwater ghost stories [and] journeys that take us from Vikings to the end of time”.
Doctor Who will return to BBC One on Saturday, September 19 – with Jenna Coleman (Clara) returning alongside Capaldi.
Guest stars for the series include Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, actor and comic Rufus Hound and Inside No. 9’s Reece Shearsmith, while Michelle Gomez will also reprise her role as Missy.
Alex Kingston is returning to Doctor Who as River Song for this year’s Christmas special
