PETER CAPALDI CALLS ON THE BBC FOR MORE REGIONAL PROGRAMMES

Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi is working on series 10

DOCTOR WHO star Peter Capaldi has urged the BBC to produce more regional content in order to be more reflective of Britain.

The 57-year-old actor called on the broadcaster to “encourage” writing and production from all across the nation.

Asked in a recent interview with the Radio Times magazine what he would change about the corporation if he was given eight billion pounds to spend, Peter said: “I’d have more regional drama.”

The Scottish star continued: “As the BBC is paid for by the entirety of the nation, that should be reflected in its content more.

“High-quality writing and production should be both encouraged and experienced by people all over the country,” he added.

The actor also talked about his favourite television shows; praising Netflix documentary Making A Murderer, Shetland and BBC singing competition The Voice.

Peter, who portrays the 12th Time Lord, also admitted that when he has a spare moment on set he likes to strum on a guitar.

“Doctor Who’s better at the guitar than I am, because some pixies come along afterwards and add some little licks and trills that are not mine,” he confessed.

He admitted that he found it “strange” when he received fan mail, including cushions with his face “all over them” and crocheted versions of himself.

The Thick of It star is set to be reprising his role as the Doctor for the tenth series of the sci-fi show, which is slated to air in spring 2017.

Filming is currently underway in Cardiff on the forthcoming run, which will see a new companion joining the time traveller “imminently” and is thought to be Peter’s last outing as the Doctor.?
