Mandip Gill teases “brilliant” Dalek return in this year’s festive special
Doctor Who star Mandip Gill is very excited about the return of the Daleks in this year’s Christmas special.
It was announced earlier this year that The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and her friends (Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill) will face the ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ this series, as the evil pepperpots return in full force.
Mandip admitted in a recent interview with the Radio Times that she couldn’t say much about the festive special, but did reveal how thrilled she was to be facing off with the Daleks once again.
“Oh, it’s brilliant! They never get old. And it seems so long ago we did it the first time [for 2019 New Year special ‘Resolution of the Daleks’],” she explained.
“Working with iconic monsters and whatnot, that people associate with Doctor Who, makes you feel more cemented in the series. When we work with things like Cybermen, John Barrowman, the Daleks, the Judoon… you feel like you’re now properly part of the Doctor Who family.”
Last month, Mandip relieved Doctor Who fans by confirming that ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ will actually be airing as planned because it was filmed before the pandemic.
“It was absolutely pure luck we happened to have filmed it,” she told RT. “I guess it’s the way it always films – they filmed the special at the same time as series 12.”
Showrunner Chris Chibnall has also clarified that “stories are forming” and “plans continue to be hatched” for series 13 as well, even though it is not currently known when filming can begin.
Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US, and will return for a festive special.
