Jodie Whittaker on equal pay, filming series 11
Jodie Whittaker is back in the UK following location work in South Africa for the now-filming Doctor Who series 11, and was in attendance at last night’s National Television Awards.
Whilst she was there, she spoke to assorted press, and the issue of equal pay came up (she was asked about this, and didn’t raise the topic herself). Whittaker is getting the same for playing the Doctor as her predecessor, Peter Capaldi, and she said that “it’s an incredibly important time and the notion [of equal pay] should be supported”.
She added that “it’s a bit of a shock that it’s a surprise to everyone that it should be supported”.
Whittaker inevitably didn’t say too much about the upcoming run of Doctor Who, short of to admit she’s having a ball. “It’s great, I love it, I absolutely love it … I get to see all the best places”, she said.
Doctor Who returns to our screens in the autumn.
