Doctor Who unveils new alien spaceship as season 13 plot details revealed
Doctor Who has unveiled a new alien spaceship along with some series 13 plot details.
Series 13 of the BBC show is set to premiere later this year and will be the beginning of the end of Jodie Whittaker’s journey as The Doctor, while also introducing new companion Dan Lewis (played by John Bishop).
On Wednesday (October 6), a Doctor Who spaceship was projected across George’s Pier Head in Liverpool, England. The projection will be visible until midnight.
While there’s no details on who the spaceship belongs to, longtime Whovians may find its unusual shape very familiar. Something Sontaran, perhaps?
Along with sharing an image of the spaceship, the BBC also confirmed that series 13 will begin in Liverpool and it’s where we’ll first meet Dan, who will become “embroiled in the Doctor’s adventures”.
Bishop recently spoke about the instant rapport he developed with co-stars Whittaker and Mandip Gill, while adding it’ll be strange to soon no longer be working with Whittaker.
“They’ve been great to work with,” he said. “So welcoming and really supportive, particularly to someone like me who’s not done a run on a series like this before. I know everyone knows it, but as everyone says, Jodie is phenomenal.”
The comedian also acknowledged how strange it has felt knowing his time with Whittaker would be short, saying: “The way [Jodie] carries this show – the amount of responsibility that she wears so lightly on her shoulders – is staggering.
“The run’s coming to an end soon and we were all talking earlier about how weird it will be not seeing each other every week.”
The BBC has yet to announce who will be taking over for Jodie as The Next Doctor, but the BBC’s Director of Drama Piers Wenger has promised “radical” change is in the works for this new era.
Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK. In the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Series 13 is due to premiere later this year.
