Doctor Who series 10 enters Emmy race as a TV movie
Doctor Who series 10 is in contention for an Emmy, but the Beeb’s sci-fi show won’t be entering the race as a series. Instead, Doctor Who will be competing in the Best TV Movie category, which is arguably a less hotly-contested field.
The show has been entered into the ballot for consideration from the Emmys academy, with particular focus being put on Twice Upon A Time, the 2017 Christmas special. This episode saw Peter Capaldi’s outgoing Doctor playing opposite David Bradley’s original Doctor, with Jodie Whittaker popping up at the end as the new Doctor.
Sherlock has had some success in years past by deploying the tactic of targetting the Best TV Movie category, so fingers remain crossed that Doctor Who can pick up a gong this time out.
Doctor Who has also submitted for consideration in the following categories: Best Movie/Mini-Series Actor (Peter Capaldi), Best Movie/Mini-Series Actress (Pearl Mackie), Best Movie/Mini-Series Writing (Steven Moffat) and Best Movie/Mini-Series Directing (Rachel Talalay).
On July 12th, we will find out if Doctor Who has been named as one of the nominees by the Emmys’ academy. The awards ceremony itself, where we’ll find out if Doctor Who won, will take place on November 19th, 2018.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
