Doctor Who in the Dating World
What is it like dating as a Whovian?
Emma Daly of Radio Times would seemingly have you believe (despite burying a reassurance) that being a fan of Doctor Who makes one a social pariah in the realm of dating. While the show may be a turn-off for some, it is quite a stretch to make such a generalization. In a recent survey by EliteSingles UK,* the Doctor Who fandom was included amongst the top three that were reported as being unappealing… by twenty two percent of respondents. Aside from the fact that this percentage is nowhere near the majority, the sample size is relatively restrictive.
For one thing, not only was the survey limited to “just 850 British singles aged 18-75,” but presumably ones who use EliteSingles UK. If the latter is so, then it would be narrowed down even further in that, according to their website, over eighty seven percent of their “members hold either a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree.” While that is all well and good, it is hardly representative of the general population. But, if the survey is to be given any credence, other shows are much bigger offenders. Fifty four percent said that Eastenders was a turn-off, and forty nine percent said Corrie.
