Demon Headmaster actor will play a major Doctor Who villain in Big Finish recasting
Big Finish is recasting a major Doctor Who villain for a new series of spin-off plays… and they’ve hired an actor best known for terrifying ’90s kids!
Terrence Hardiman, best known for playing the title role in The Demon Headmaster series (1996-98), will play Rassilon, first Lord High President of the Time Lords.
Hardiman will join Lalla Ward (Romana) and Seán Carlsen (Narvin) for the latest entries in the Gallifrey: Time War series.
Following the events of Gallifrey: Time War – Volume One, released by Big Finish in February, three more box sets, depicting what happened to the Time Lords’ home planet in the ultimate battle across time and space, will be released over the next few years.
The first new set, Volume Two, will be released in March 2019 and is comprised of four stories: ‘Havoc’ by David Llewellyn, ‘Partisans’ by Una McCormack, ‘Collateral’ by Lisa McMullin and ‘Assassins’ by Matt Fitton.
Returning here, Rassilon first appeared on-screen in Doctor Who‘s 20th anniversary special ‘The Five Doctors’, played by Richard Mathews, and was later portrayed by Timothy Dalton and most recently Donald Sumpter.
The character has also previously been played by Don Warrington and David Sibley on audio, with Hardiman the third actor to tackle the part for Big Finish.
Hardiman has previously appeared in Doctor Who on television, playing Hawthorne in 2010 episode ‘The Beast Below’ starring Matt Smith.
Gallifrey: Time War Volume One is available now from bigfinish.com. Volumes Two, Three and Four are available for pre-order now ahead of their release in March 2019, February 2020 and February 2021.
