Fugitive Doctor and TARDIS set announced by Character Options

Fugitive Doctor and TARDIS set announced by Character Options

Character Options Fugitive Doctor

The enigmatic incarnation of the Doctor as first seen in FUGITIVE OF THE JUDOON gets her own figure set in an online exclusive from Character Options.

Character Options is excited and delighted to announce that, for the first time, the Fugitive Doctor will join her esteemed other incarnations with her own figure set, in this latest online exclusive Doctor Who Figure set.

Inspired by the Doctor Who episode entitled FUGITIVE OF THE JUDOON, Character Options is proud to present this figure of the mysterious Fugitive Doctor along with her very own TARDIS! Both are presented in this specially designed 60th Anniversary window packaging.

Set Contents at 5.5 Inch Scale:

  • 1 x Fugitive Doctor Figure.
  • 1 x Division Blaster Accessory
  • 1 x TARDIS with opening doors

Character Options Fugitive & TARDIS

This incarnation of the Doctor is shrouded in mystery. The Thirteenth Doctor first met the Fugitive Doctor (played by Jo Martin) when she was hiding out as ‘Ruth Clayton’, a tour guide living in Gloucester. Using a Chameleon Arch, she’d re-written her DNA to appear human and buried her TARDIS below ground where it could never be found. She was hiding from her former employer, a mysterious Time Lord agency called ‘The Division’, who had hired the Judoon to track her down. With the arrival of the Judoon and Thirteenth Doctor, the Fugitive Doctor’s secret couldn’t be kept for much longer.

Ruth flees with the Thirteenth Doctor to a lighthouse she remembered as a child, but what they discover there only deepens the mystery. Sensing something familiar, the Thirteenth Doctor discovers her own TARDIS from the long past, and when Ruth breaks the fire alarm within the lighthouse it triggers a reversal of the Chameleon Arch. Instantly the Doctor once more, she teleports herself and the Thirteenth Doctor into her TARDIS and takes off to confront the ‘Division’. The Thirteenth Doctor is hugely disturbed by the fact she cannot remember being this incarnation but recognises the truth that she undeniably had been. Now free, this no longer fugitive Doctor leaves for further adventures and would go on to meet her Thirteenth self a handful of times, as a projection of the Matrix, and then again as a holograph.

The full story of the Fugitive Doctor remains undisclosed and only time will reveal the full truth… as it always does.

Character Options Fugitive

Al Dewar, Creative Director, commented:

“Well, it’s finally out there! And safe to say this is one of the most special Doctors I’ve ever worked on. It’s been under wraps for well over a year and a half which helped keep the secret.
Jo Martin, who was utterly delightful to work with when creating this set and we also give her rather lovely TARDIS a wee overhaul as well, with the original flat roof being replaced by a slightly angled one, with replacement lamp and nice little undercuts between the roof pillars. There is also one neat little easter egg in the pack we hope collectors enjoy. All in all, this is a truly great set.”

The set will be solely available for sale via Character Online from Monday 22nd January 2024.

Blind fan brings Doctor Who to life for thousands of visually impaired fans

Blind fan brings Doctor Who to life for thousands of visually impaired fans

Lifelong Doctor Who fan, Louis Moorhouse, raised almost £25,000 to bring his favourite show to life in a series of tactile-audio resources that help for blind and visually impaired fans experience iconic Doctor Who characters, props and sets through touch and sound.

For 60 years the immersive, visual universe of Doctor Who has been captivating the imaginations of audiences around the world. Now, for the first time, blind and visually impaired people can fully experience the spectacle too — thanks to an innovative new project.

The charity Living Paintings, which creates tactile-audio experiences for blind and visually impaired children and young people, have now released the first in a series of Doctor Who resources that fans of all ages can enjoy for free from the comfort of their own home. Within each pack, audio descriptions guide fingers over hand-made raised images of the show’s iconic characters, props and sets – helping blind and visually impaired fans to create a picture in their mind and ‘see’ through touch.

This project was all made possible by lifelong Whovian, Louis Moorhouse (22), who has been using the charity’s service since he was just 18 months old after losing his sight due to complications with childhood cancer. After approaching the charity with the idea in 2021, Louis raised almost £25,000 to make his dream a reality. Now, thanks to his monumental efforts, thousands of other blind people across the UK will also be able to access the Whoniverse at their fingertips.

“I can’t believe that an idea two years ago while walking my guide dog, Kizzy, has evolved into something so incredible,” Moorhouse explained. I’ve been a Doctor Who fan for as long as I remember, but I hadn’t fully met the weird and wonderful characters, aliens, monsters and devices used in the show until now. In my own way, I’m able to see the TARDIS, the Daleks, Cybermen and so much more. Knowing that this will benefit so many other fans, and maybe inspire new ones, is amazing.”

With 60 years of history to cover, the first release focuses on the TARDIS and the first four incarnations of The Doctor alongside a slew of legendary adversaries, and features audio descriptions from a host of fan-favourites including Tom Baker, Sir Derek Jacobi, Katy Manning and ‘voice of the Daleks’ Nichols Briggs. More releases in the New Year will take blind and visually impaired people on a further journey through space and time, meeting successive Doctors, friends and foes.

“Few shows have such rich, visual history as Doctor Who,” Publishing Manager Liz Davies said. “It’s been an honour to work with Louis in producing these fabulous new resources, helping blind and visually impaired people experience it – from the first doctor to the fourteenth. Beyond his incredible work raising the funds to make the project happen, he’s also been involved in the production process every step of the way. His wealth of knowledge and infectious passion has been invaluable to us. What we’ve created together has been a labour of love and we’re so incredibly proud to release it into the world during the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations.”

Living Paintings is a national charity on a mission to ensure every blind child in the UK has equal access to the visual world of pictures, books and learning. From adapting bestselling picture books into accessible, tactile-audio formats for blind children to developing resources designed to inspire, educate and entertain. Their free postal library gives thousands of blind children and young people the world at their fingertips. DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE 584

DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE 584

THE FOURTEENTH DOCTOR’S ADVENTURES BEGIN – EXCLUSIVELY IN DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE!

David Tennant is the Fourteenth Doctor… and although it will be a year until we see his TV adventures, the story continues in Doctor Who Magazine issue 584.

An epic new comic-strip adventure, written by Alan Barnes and illustrated by Lee Sullivan, picks up directly where The Power of the Doctor left off.

Editor Marcus Hearn says, “Russell T Davies, our new showrunner, has long admired the DWM strip. And that’s why he’s granted us the honour of telling the Fourteenth Doctor’s first story in an adventure that dovetails with the most recent episode. For the first time in our 43-year history, the strip is now in lockstep with the television series’ continuity.”

Russell T Davies says, “From day one, I wanted to increase ties between the show and the magazine. I love it when we’re in sync! A lot of people will be thinking, David’s not the real Doctor, he’s a trick, an illusion, a flashback. But no. He’s real. And DWM can help us underline that.”

Other highlights of the new issue include:

  • Meet the New Team – the producers, directors and other crew members of Doctor Who tell us what they’re looking forward to in the 2023 Specials and beyond.
  • Letter from the Showrunner – in the first of his new regular columns, Russell T Davies reveals what brought him back to Doctor Who.
  • Production Diary – script editor Scott Handcock provides exclusive updates about forthcoming episodes, direct from Doctor Who’s HQ.
  • Reach up for the Sunrise – David Tennant, Russell T Davies, former showrunner Chris Chibnall, directors Rachel Talalay and Jamie Magnus Stone, and CG artist Ben Pickles describe shooting The Power of the Doctor’s regeneration sequence.
  • The Strip of a Lifetime – Russell T Davies, Scott Handcock, Alan Barnes and Lee Sullivan on creating the Fourteenth Doctor’s first adventure.
  • The Watchers – fans who were lucky enough to be granted studio visits in the 1960s and early 70s recall the thrill of watching Doctor Who being made.
  • Hack to the Future – an interview with artist Robert Hack about the new illustrated version of David Whitaker’s seminal novel Doctor Who and the Daleks.
  • Collectivity: The TARDIS – meet the fans for whom collecting police-box merchandise has been a lifelong passion.
  • Factory Records – the sets of 1966’s The Power of the Daleks are recreated, providing new insights into this mostly missing story.
  • The Fact of Fiction encounters Cybermen and Daleks as it looks back at 2006’s Army of Ghosts.
  • Other Worlds – an essential guide to forthcoming stories in the expanded Doctor Who universe.
  • Previews, reviews, news, prize-winning competitions, Time and Space VisualiserSufficient Data and more.
