The Doctor wax figurine and the display at Madame Tussauds London

The TARDIS has landed in Madame Tussauds London!

Celebrated Doctor Who Showrunner, Executive Producer and writer Russell T Davies, visited the attraction to unveil the new specially crafted, Doctor Who set, including the figure of Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor, which was created in collaboration with the actor himself.

The new Whoniverse-inspired set comes after the culmination of Gatwa’s first season as the iconic Time Lord, which ended in the epic two-parter finale THE LEGEND OF RUBY SUNDAY and EMPIRE OF DEATH. As fans eagerly await season two, Madame Tussauds London now brings Doctor Who from screen to life with an immersive set, inspired by the Whoniverse and created in partnership with BBC Studios.

Ncuti Gatwa began working with Madame Tussauds London’s artists in July 2023, attending a sitting and collaborating on the figure’s pose and expression. In May this year, Gatwa met with the team again to give his final seal of approval.

Ncuti Gatwa said,

“It’s been amazing to work with Madame Tussauds London’s artists, what incredible artists they all are. I hope when fans see the figure and the set they feel that they are part of the Whoniverse, that everyone is welcome and they can step in to the TARDIS and hop off on an adventure.”

Russell T Davies – who led the 2005 revival before making his grand return for Ncuti Gatwa’s bi-generation as the Fifteenth Doctor – visited the Baker Street attraction to unveil the Whoniverse- inspired set before it launches to eager Whovians.

Madame Tussauds London’s Studio Manager, Jo Kinsey, speaking on the figure’s arrival said,

“It’s been wonderful working with Ncuti Gatwa to bring the Fifteenth Doctor to life at the attraction. Ncuti Gatwa is a Time Lord for modern times, his charisma and flair have brought the world’s longest-running sci-fi show to a new generation and we’re proud to immortalise that with his new figure.

“Having Russell T Davies unveil the new Whoniverse-inspired set was the icing on the cake as we offer fans the chance to step in to their own episode of the legendary series. The Whoniverse is looking very bright, and we’re sure that fans will be lining up to see the Doctor and feel like a fellow companion!”

Known for striking costume changes throughout the season, the Fifteenth Doctor’s figure is styled in one of his signature looks. Created especially for the figure by the show’s wardrobe department, the outfit includes the Fifteenth Doctor’s iconic long leather coat, as well as a hand-knitted top as seen in the first episode of Season One, SPACE BABIES. Attention was also given to the fine details too – such as his jewellery and hand-painted Gallifreyan nail art.

This isn’t Madame Tussauds London’s first encounter with time and space, the attraction featured in Doctor Who’s 1970 SPEARHEAD FROM SPACE: Episode 4 and has created earlier regenerations of the Doctor, beginning with the Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker, in 1980.

The Fifteenth Doctor’s figure will be available for Whovians of all generations to meet from Friday 19th July 2024 at Madame Tussauds London’s new Baker Street Studios film and TV zone.

Paul McGann to star in special live recording of Big Finish’s Eighth Doctor Adventures – UPDATED!

Paul McGann to star in special live recording of Big Finish’s Eighth Doctor Adventures – UPDATED!

DWxBF

Celebrate 25 years of Big Finish’s Doctor Who audio dramas with a live recording of new Eighth Doctor adventure ‘The Stuff of Legend’.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of licensed Doctor Who audio dramas, Big Finish Theatre, in partnership with BBC Studios, Fourth Wall Live and AEG, is proud to announce a unique full-cast live recording event, taking place at Cadogan Hall, London on Saturday 14 September 2024.

For the very first time, Doctor Who fans will be able to watch an all-star cast take to the stage to perform a brand-new audio play, THE STUFF OF LEGEND, by Robert Valentine.

Leading the cast is Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and India Fisher as his indomitable companion Charley Pollard. They’ll be joined onstage by Alex Macqueen as the Master alongside Nicholas Briggs, who voices the Doctor’s unstoppable arch-enemy, the Daleks.

Something is afoot in the lonely Cornish village of Merrymaid Bay. Rumours of dead men working in the tin mines have sent a chill through the community, and it’s up to the Doctor and Charley to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Can the legends of the Bucca that haunts the mines be true? And just what awesome power do the Doctor’s greatest enemies – the Daleks! – threaten to unleash upon the universe?

Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery said:

“25 years? It feels like 25 seconds! Producing the audio adventures of Doctor Who has been such a joy that two and a half decades has flown by – almost as if we have all been in the time vortex with the Doctor.

“We’ve enjoyed ourselves so much producing thousands of hours of audio drama adventures – and now we have the chance to show fans of the series how the audio productions are made, with a new live performance – the first time Doctor Who has been performed live on stage since 1989.”

Dominic Walker, Global Business Director at BBC Studios, added:

“After 25 years of working with Big Finish on the Doctor Who audio adventures, BBC Studios is excited to now be bringing a live version to the stage. THE STUFF OF LEGEND is a fitting celebration and I am delighted that fans will be able to witness the recording of such a momentous anniversary story up close and personal.”

Cadogan Hall has limited capacity so fans are advised to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

Alongside the live stage show recording, a full-cast studio production of DOCTOR WHO: THE STUFF OF LEGEND will be released at bigfinish.com on 14 September 2024. This will also be available to purchase as a collector’s edition CD at the event.

Tickets are available to order from Friday 5th July at doctorwhoaudiolive.com.

Doctor Who fans hoping to get tickets for the upcoming live recording of The Stuff of Legend with Paul McGann are in luck – as two new dates have just been announced by Big Finish.

Additional performances of the full-cast live recording event have been added at 2:30pm and 6:30pm on Sunday 15th September 2024, with fans urged to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

The event – which is being held at London’s Cadogan Hall – will see an all-star cast led by McGann as the Eighth Doctor take to the stage to perform the audio drama live.

That cast also includes India Fisher as companion Charley Pollard, Alex Macqueen as the Master and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks, and the official synopsis teases: “Something is afoot in the lonely Cornish village of Merrymaid Bay.

“Rumours of dead men working in the tin mines have sent a chill through the community, and it’s up to the Doctor and Charley to get to the bottom of the mystery.”

It continues:

“Can the legends of the Bucca that haunts the mines be true? And just what awesome power do the Doctor’s greatest enemies – the Daleks! – threaten to unleash upon the universe?”

If you’re looking to get your hands on some tickets, they’re available to order on the Doctor Who Audio Adventures Live website from 10am on Wednesday 31st July, with prices beginning at £18.

“Taking a Big Finish Doctor Who audio drama to the stage is something we’ve always wanted to do, and now it’s finally happening,” McGann said of the event.

“Raise the curtain, lower the house lights, and start playing the theme. It’s time to step on board the TARDIS and set off on a brand new adventure.”

Fisher added: “I love playing Charley, and she’s been part of my life for over two decades. Paul and I have shared so many amazing adventures, but always from a sound booth.

“I’m really excited to be performing in front of a live audience. It’s going to take it to a whole new level. It’ll be electric, I can’t wait.”

Meanwhile, Doctor Who brand director Vanessa Hamilton said that she was “delighted that the response to Doctor Who Audio Live has been so positive, and that we are able to provide additional opportunities to fans to watch an all-star cast take to the stage”.

The full studio production of Doctor Who: The Stuff of Legend will be released on 14th September 2024. Big Finish listeners can pre-order this adventure now for just £15.99 (collector’s edition double CD + download) or £12.99 (download only) at bigfinish.com. The collector’s edition CD will also be available to purchase at the event.

Worlds of Wonder science exhibition heads to Wellington, New Zealand

Worlds of Wonder science exhibition heads to Wellington, New Zealand

Who has arrived in New Zealand?

Famously bigger on the inside, the TARDIS arrived in Wellington for the DOCTOR WHO WORLDS OF WONDER: WHERE SCIENCE MEETS FICTION | DOCTOR WHO NGĀ AO MĪHARO: TE TŪTAKITANGA O TE PŪTAIAO KI TE PAKIMAERO exhibition opening at Tākina, Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 1.

Doctor Who fans will have the opportunity to come face to face with the show’s iconic characters, share the Doctor’s adventures and explore some of the worlds visited on screen. This is the first time the exhibition has left UK shores.

To celebrate its arrival down under, a short journey through time and space ended at Wellington Airport when the TARDIS touched down on the runway at 1am earlier this month.

DOCTOR WHO WORLDS OF WONDER: WHERE SCIENCE MEETS FICTION explores the science behind the global hit series Doctor Who. Visitors experience many of the Doctor’s adventures, come face to face with a selection of iconic characters and explore some of the worlds visited on screen, all whilst learning about the real life science behind some of those memorable moments.

Part of the exhibition is the Monster Vault where visitors will come face to face with many of the Doctor’s alien adversaries and learn about their connections with real science. Created in collaboration with BBC Studios, scientific themes such as artificial intelligence, DNA manipulation and cloning – all of which have featured in Doctor Who episodes – are explored and explained.

Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau says the chance to explore such an iconic show is too good to miss.

“Tickets for this incredible, other worldly exhibition are now on sale. It’s time to get ready to travel through time and space and explore the universe of Doctor Who and the science that has played such a crucial role in the show’s history.

“I know Wellingtonians and visitors alike are going to love this exhibition and we can’t wait to welcome people to another great event at Tākina.”

WellingtonNZ Events and Experiences general manager Heidi Morton says:

“Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder offers another dimension to the packed Wellington winter calendar that includes Visa Wellington On a Plate, World of WearableArt and two All Blacks tests. With the latest series of Doctor Who screening on Disney+ from May 11, the exhibition is on at a perfect time.”

Wellington Airport Head of Operations Matthew Palliser said:

“While it was an out of the ordinary landing for our the runway, there was no disruption to aircraft using more conventional means of flight. Fortunately the TARDIS landed before our first flight of the day and didn’t require baggage handlers or refuelling.”

The exhibition is a partnership between Wellington City Council and Sarner International, delivered by WellingtonNZ. It is produced by Sarner International under license from BBC Studios.

Tickets to the exhibition can be purchased online from today here
