Former Doctor Who, Paul McGann, who is due to appear at the Isle of Wight Comic Con in November.

DOCTOR Who star Paul McGann is heading to the Isle of Wight’s first Comic Con in November.

McGann, who played the eighth doctor, became a cult movie hero for his leading role in the classic film Withnail and I, starring alongside Richard E. Grant.

His career has also included performances in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the JG Ballard’s book Empire of the Sun, Ripper Street, Holby City, Waking the Dead and Luther.

Comic Con is due to be held at Northwood House on November 4 and 5.

Doctor Who Experience announces final summer of activities

Doctor Who Experience

The popular Doctor Who Experience attraction in Cardiff will close its doors for the last time on September 9^th, and BBC Worldwide has now announced the final summer of activities.

On Saturday 22^nd July, it kicks off the school summer holidays with a special Cybermen day. Cybermen will be patrolling the attraction, and Millennium FX will be revealing how the monsters are realised. Luke Spillane, of the Doctor Who Fan Show, will be presenting a Facebook Live transmission from the Experience, too.

Saturday 5^th August, meanwhile, is cosplay day. More details on that are set to be released shortly.

On Saturday 12^th August, it’s the Doctor Who Experience Snapchat Treasure Hunt, where tickets to the final day of the Experience will be up for grabs. Again, more details are to follow.

Furthermore, exhibits from series ten of the show, as well as a fully-restored Yeti, are now on display.

Get ready for a Cybermen invasion this Saturday, July 22 at the Doctor Who Experience as we explore the world of the emotionless, deadly monsters.

Throughout the day expert prosthetic artists Millennium FX will be hosting Cybermen workshops and talks about the creation of the Cybermen you see on your screens. Millennium FX will also be performing Cyber conversions for those who purchased the special Cyber upgrade.

Relive the appearance of the Mondasian Cybermen in the Series 10 two-part finale in our special episode screenings of World Enough And Time / The Doctor Falls. Get your photo taken with our special green screen background featuring the Cybermen. Plus, Luke Spillane, Doctor Who: The Fan Show favourite, will also be present hosting our very first Facebook Live – stay tuned!

Finally make sure you keep your wits about you as some of the Cybermen will come to life…

Closing Date For The Doctor Who Experience Confirmed as 9th September

The Doctor Who Experience is to mark the attraction’s closure with a whole summer jam-packed with tours and activities. After a successful, five-year tenure in Cardiff, visitors are invited to join a number of special events before the venue closes its doors on 9th September.

The summer holidays mark the return of the Filming Location Walking Tours. This final season of tours, starting from the 8th July, are a 75 minute walk in and around Cardiff Bay and feature sites from Series 10 and memorable locations from previous series.

Series 10 content will also be added into the Experience, with the finished exhibition being unveiled on the 8th July. This will include props, costumes and sets from Series 10, that will join the Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie costumes which are already part of the exhibition.

Earlier this year we announced that the Yeti from The Web of Fear, during Patrick Troughton’s incarnation as the Doctor, was voted by fans as the Doctor Who monster they’d most like to see restored as part of the ongoing Restoration Project. So to celebrate, Model Unit expert, Mike Tucker will also be on hand on the 8th July to reveal the final, renovated monster in all its glory to visitors.

On 22nd July, the Experience will host its final Monster Event, with the Cybermen at its theme. The day will include workshops and question and answer sessions with monster-makers, Millennium FX; a chance for fans to be converted into Cybermen; as well as live Mondasian Cybermen roaming the Experience floor.

The day will be completed with a viewing of the final two-part episode, first screened on BBC One on 24th June & 1st July, screened in the Experience’s exhibition area.

Later in the holidays, on the 5th August, fans can look forward to the biggest Doctor Who Experience Cosplay Celebration yet. Fans will be invited and encouraged to visit dressed as their favourite Doctor Who character or monster.

Further news of how we will be using the Doctor Who filming locations to continue the commercial presence of Doctor Who in Cardiff will be communicated in due course.

He may have travelled to the furthest reaches of the universe, but Geordies won’t be surprised to learn that The Doctor loves the Toon.

Appearing at Newcastle’s Film and Comic Con this weekend, Sylvester McCoy, the actor who played the seventh incarnation of the time-travelling hero in the BBC TV series Doctor Who, spoke about his love for the city.

He told us he was visiting to “celebrate science fiction and fantasy” at the annual festival, but he was happy to be here because “I love Newcastle , anyway”.

What is it the actor, who also appeared in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films, likes so much about our city?

Pretty much everything, by the sounds of it.

“I love the bridges, I love the architecture, the food, people.”

Though some aspects of the city did seem to baffle him.

Possibly displaying some of the slightly wacky humour that marked his earlier appearances in the beloved show, he said: “I’m here in the Metro Radio… Centre – weird name, anyway, I don’t know why it’s called ‘Metro’ because there’s not even a Metro near it, but hey ho.”

It’s May 4, which means fans of a certain film saga will be wishing people well in the typical Jedi style.

But the excitement of Star Wars doesn’t have to only reoccur every May in East Yorkshire, because it has just been announced the actual Darth Vader will be coming to Hull.

Unleashed Events are proud to announce that Spencer Wilding, who played the Sith Lord in Rogue One, will be making one of his first UK appearances since the release of the long-awaited film.

On May 14, Spencer will be joined by none other than Doctor Who number six, Colin Baker, and the pair will be available to meet and sign autographs as part of Humber Unleashed – a geeky comic-con for all the family.

There will be about 40 traders at the Willerby Manor Hotel event, with Bumble Bee, Optimus Prime and Daisy the dinosaur all set to make their own appearances. There will also be superheroes, geeky toys, merchandise, collectibles, T-shirts, art and much, much more.

MONSTER DAY OUT – EASTER BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

This Saturday The Doctor Who Experience welcomes back Mike Tucker to launch the next stage of their restoration project, and kick off voting for the classic monsters you want to see restored.

All part of our monster day of fun!

This spring sees the return of Doctor Who to our screens and to celebrate a new series of exciting adventures and monsters – old and new – the Doctor Who Experience is holding a special Easter Monster Day on Saturday 15 April – our biggest yet!

Kicking off the monster activities will be the award-winning prosthetic company Millennium FX, who bring to life many of the Doctor Who monsters you see on your screens.

Hosting workshops throughout the day, Millennium FX will show you the design process behind the creation of the monsters, including their work with prosthetics. You’ll also get a chance to design your own monster yourself!

The specially- skilled Millennium FX make up-artists will also be on hand to partially convert YOU into a monster. Choose between a Cyberman or a Zygon and share your conversion on social media with your friends! Last but not least, a Monster Day is incomplete without live monsters roaming about…so be prepared as the Doctor will need all the help from his official companions!
