David Tennant says Doctor Who’s fan base is “quite scary at first”
Doctor Who‘s David Tennant is heading to The Graham Norton Show tonight (May 18), alongside Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Emilia Clarke and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Talking about his role in the BBC show, Tennant reveals that the fan base “is quite scary at first”, which figures.
“It’s quite a small club. It does feel like once you’ve been The Doctor, you’re always The Doctor. We do form a small support network,” Tennant tells Norton.
“It’s quite an unusual job and it’s humbling to be at the centre of that. It has such a huge fan base all over the world that it is quite scary at first.”
He also opens up about getting an Emmy for one hour’s voice work on a Star Wars animated film. “I loved doing it but about a year later I got the award in the post,” he said.
“I felt like I should have strived more and it didn’t really feel like I had earned it. It went against my Scottish Presbyterian work ethic just to get one in the post when you didn’t even know you were up for it!”
On being cast in his wife’s new movie – You, Me and Him – he adds: “It went to lots of other actors before it came to me – I thought I would be a shoo-in!”
Elsewhere in the episode, Emilia reveals that Brad Pitt once bid on her as part of a charity auction, while Phoebe admits that she didn’t even know what a droid was before her Star Wars audition.
The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One tonight (May 18) at 10.35pm.
