Michelle Gomez was devastated when Jenna Coleman left
HER character Missy may have enjoyed terrorising Doctor Who companion Clara Oswald, but actress Michelle Gomez was very upset when actress Jenna Coleman departed from the TARDIS.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet, the 49-year-old star described the recent casting of Pearl Mackie as the Time Lord’s new assistant Bill as “brilliant”.
However, she added: “I am devastated and sad to see Jenna going but I had a while to get used to it because we knew about it ahead of time.
“So I’m excited for her [Pearl], I’m excited for the show and new energy.”
Can we expect to see more of the Doctor’s nemesis in series 10 of the rebooted sci-fi series? “I don’t know about that but even if I did, I couldn’t tell you,” Michelle teased.
The Scottish actress said that she didn’t see her character as a “villain”, joking that her looks made it difficult for her to be cast in other less nefarious roles.
“That’s the problem with this face it’s difficult to cast this face as anything other than a villain. I’m just making my money out of it, having this scary thing,” she quipped.
She was nominated for her performance as the devilishly delightfully female incarnation of The Master in the Supporting Actress category but ended up losing out to This Is England ‘90’s Chanel Cresswell.
