These Metropolitan Police items will be auctioned off next month

You might think that it would cost you a pretty penny to get your hands on the TARDIS from Doctor Who – and you’d probably right.

But full-blown Doctor Who fans could soon own something very similar thanks to a Somerset auctioneer’s house.

Lawrence’s Auctioneers, based in Crewkerne, is auctioning of a “very rare” Metropolitan Police telephone box, with the same distinctive royal blue colour made famous by Gallifrey’s most noteworthy child.

The police box still contains its original telephone inside, and has illuminated panels on the front and sides along with a light on the top.

Auctioneer Simon Jones with the police box, constructed in the 1920s or 1930s

Like its more famous bigger brother, it was used by Londoners if they needed to make a telephone call in an emergency.

The piece was probably constructed in the 1920s or 1930s, and is made of cast iron.

Auctioneer Simon Jones said: “This is a rare piece of telephone history and would make a great acquisition for a collector or museum.

“We believe there are only two left in existence in London, so this is a most unusual find.”

The telephone box will be sold in Lawrences’ May collectors sale on Friday, May 12, with an estimated price of £2000 to £3000. For further details please call Simon Jones on 01460 73041.
