Coming soon is an original crossover event between Doctor Who and the free-to-play deep space-faring massive multiplayer online (MMO) EVE Online!

Doctor Who x Eve Online

EVE Online is a free-to-play, community-driven spaceship MMO game where players can choose their own path among the stars from countless options. The game first launched in 2003 and has since gained recognition for its scale, complexity, and the world record-breaking exploits of its online community.

EVE Online x Doctor Who introduces new, Gallifrey-themed space where players will search for artifacts from Doctor Who’s Great Time War. The artifacts will provide players with clues to track down the infamous Daleks and face them in an interstellar battle of the ages. Players who survive the fight will reap unique rewards that they can take back to New Eden. Additionally, a login campaign with skill points and Doctor Who-themed items will be available to all players throughout the duration of the event.

Bergur Finnbogason, EVE Online’s Creative Director says:

“2022 will be off to an (inter)stellar start with EVE Online x Doctor Who. We are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible in EVE Online. Collaborating with BBC Studios gives us the opportunity to pay homage to an iconic series that has inspired us at CCP. We hope you’ll join us in New Eden on January 13 to see what happens when galaxies collide!”

Kevin Jorge, Senior Producer at BBC Studios:

“EVE Online x Doctor Who not only brings two iconic universes together, but also the passionate Whovians with the just-as-passionate pilots of New Eden. By bringing the fanbases together, the already massive battles of EVE Online are sure to become even more explosive. Only time will tell if New Eden’s fiercest pilots have what it takes to challenge the might of the Daleks.”

The Sea Devils will return to Doctor Who in Spring 2022 special

The Sea Devils will return to Doctor Who in Spring 2022 special

“Legend of the Sea Devils” will mark their first appearance since 1984.

Doctor Who

The Sea Devils are one of the few iconic Doctor Who monsters from the classic series never to have appeared post-2005, but that’s about to change.

The Next Time trailer aired during the end credits of New Year’s Day episode Eve of the Daleks confirmed that the Silurians’ aquatic cousins will return in the next special, titled “Legend of the Sea Devils“.

A synopsis reads:

“This episode finds the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) in 19th century China, where a small coastal village is under threat – from both the fearsome pirate queen Madame Ching (Crystal Yu) and a monstrous alien force which she unwittingly unleashes. Will the Doctor, Yaz and Dan emerge from this swashbuckling battle with the Sea Devils to save the planet?”

The episode will also star Arthur Lee as Ji-Hun and Marlowe Chan-Reeves as Ying Ki, alongside the central TARDIS trio.

The special, which is set to air in spring 2022, will mark the Sea Devils’ first appearance in Doctor Who since 1984’s “Warriors of the Deep“, and only their third major appearance overall including their debut in 1972’s “The Sea Devils“.

Unlike the Silurians, who were radically redesigned for the new series, it looks as though the Sea Devils’ classic look has been more or less retained, though updated to allow for more realistic expression.

As noted, “Legend of the Sea Devils” will see the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) encounter the creatures – originally created by writer Malcolm Hulke – on the high seas, along with pirate queen Madame Ching (real name Zheng Yi Sao, played here by Crystal Yu).

Zheng Yi Sao was a Chinese pirate who was active in the South China Sea during the early part of the 19th century.

The final scenes of Eve of the Daleks saw the Doctor decide to discover whatever happened to the lost treasure of the Flor de la Mar – a Portuguese ship which sunk in November 1511 carrying a large treasure trove intended for the Portuguese king.

Doubtless this too will feature into the plot of Legend of the Sea Devils, with a hunt underway for the lost treasure interrupted by a “demon” of the sea…

Doctor Who

The episode is Jodie Whittaker’s penultimate outing as the Thirteenth Doctor ahead of her exit in another special which will air in autumn 2022 to mark the BBC’s centenary.

Doctor Who will return to BBC One in spring 2022.

TWO FREE BRAND NEW STORIES FROM CANDY JAR

TWO FREE BRAND NEW STORIES FROM CANDY JAR

Candy Jar is pleased to announce two free-for-download short stories to kick off 2022. These are Sweaty Flow and The Gray Lady of Martyr’s House.

Sweaty Flow is written by Iain Mclaughlin, who has recently contributed a story to the upcoming UNIT anthology Operation Wildcat (due to be released in the New Year). Combining comedy, hijinks and adventure, this short story finds Lethbridge-Stewart and Doris staying in a Brighton hotel run by Mr Sinclair, probably the worst hotelier in the world.

Candy Jar is also reissuing a special edition of Lethbridge-Stewart: Mind of Stone, featuring a brand new story.

The other freebie is a Lucy Wilson ghost story The Gray Lady of Martyr’s House by Chris Lynch. Chris previously penned last year’s free story A Little Lucy Christmas, as well as the Lucy Wilson books Curse of the Mirror Clowns and Attack of the Quarks. On top of this he was author of critically acclaimed Lethbridge-Stewart novel The George Kostinen Mystery.

LW 2021 Xmas

The Gray Lady of Martyr’s House is a ghoulish short story that finds Lucy and Hobo trapped in a haunted house during the Christmas holidays. Chris says: “Who doesn’t love a ghost story at Christmas? I certainly do. My story has a spooky old house, a creepy housekeeper, a library with a very unusual selection of books, and at least one talking animal. So, on the day I put the Christmas tree up, I started writing this eerie tale. If you like classic ‘70s cartoons, M.R. James or Hammer Horror, I hope this creepy concoction hits the right tone.”

For Doctor Who fans that are unaware of Lucy Wilson, she is the granddaughter of the iconic Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, one of Doctor Who’s longest running characters. “The Brigadier”, as he is known to fans, was played by the late Nicholas Courtney. After the Brigadier’s death, Lucy Wilson assumes the mantle of her grandfather with the help of her best friend Hobo.

Head of Publishing at Candy Jar, Shaun Russell, says:

“We always try to give something back at Christmas time. Our readers are incredibly supportive and I hope everyone enjoys these stories as we head into 2022.”
