According to The Yorkshire Live website, Yorkshire Tory MP has linked the rising levels of crime committed by men to female actors taking leading roles in Doctor Who, Ghostbusters and Star Wars.
Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher, speaking in a debate to mark International Men’s Day, asked if it was “any wonder we are seeing so many young men committing crime” while “good” male role models were being replaced on TV and at the cinema.
Mr Fletcher said Parliament had “left the struggles of many males out of the discussion”.
He said: “Some may say that men have had their turn, and it’s a woman’s turn now.
“However, that’s a poor argument and one that I find rather infantile, yet it is something that I’ve heard within the walls of these premises during private discussions and it’s a narrative that I feel has penetrated popular discourse.”
Mr Fletcher said there was an urgent need for male role models and argued masculinity should be something “celebrated rather than continually vilified”.
He added: “Everywhere, not least within the cultural sphere, here seems to be a call from a tiny, very vocal minority that every male character or good role model must have a female replacement.
“One only needs to look at the discussion surrounding who will play the next James Bond and it’s not just James Bond.
“In recent years, we have seen Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Luke Skywalker, the Equaliser, all replaced by women and men are left with the Krays and Tommy Shelby.
“Is there any wonder we are seeing so many young men committing crime?
He added: “When a young boy continually hears masculinity being linked with toxicity in societal discourse then it is no wonder that many suffer from feelings of worthless and isolation.”
Mr Fletcher went on to say: “If we get this right we should need fewer police not more, we should need fewer courts not more, we should need fewer prisons not more. This is a long game, we need to help men at all stages of their lives.”
Fellow Tory, Blackpool MP Scott Benton, told the debate:
“Unfortunately for far too long men’s issues have been swept under the carpet as society focuses on the false narrative of male privilege.
“The very mention of men’s issues will have hypocritical virtue signallers seething as they try condemn white men as oppressors.”

The Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and friends will kick-start 2022 with an action-packed spectacular episode set to air on BBC One on New Year’s Day. The festive special will feature guest stars Aisling Bea (This Way Up, Living With Yourself, Quiz), Adjani Salmon (Dreaming Whilst Black, Enterprice) and Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Shameless).
Sarah (Aisling Bea) owns and runs ELF storage, and Nick (Adjani Salmon) is a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve. This year, however, their night turns out to be a little different than planned…
The festive episode is the first of three Doctor Who Specials airing in 2022. The second Special airs in Spring and Jodie’s final feature-length Special (in where the Thirteenth Doctor will regenerate), will transmit in autumn 2022 as part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations.
Doctor Who is a BBC Studios production for BBC One and a BBC America co-production. BBC Studios are the international distributors for Doctor Who.
The Abominable Snowmen will be released in 2022 on DVD, Blu-ray and as an exclusive Steelbook, filling another gap in missing Doctor Who episodes.
Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen is a six-part story based on audio recordings of the original episodes. Most of the six-part adventure story was lost soon after the programme’s original transmission in 1967 and only the audio recordings of the episodes survived.
Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen follows the Doctor as he returns to the Himalayas 300 years after his first visit to the Holy Ganta, an ancient relic he was given many centuries ago by the grateful monks at Det-Sen Monastery. On arriving, the Doctor is blamed for a series of brutal murders in the area, however companions Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield discover the true culprits – the previously peaceful Yeti that live in seclusion on the mountainside have apparently turned violent.
The Doctor must convince the monks that not only is he not their enemy, but the real foe is living amongst them. Their ancient Master, Padmasambhava, is being controlled by an alien entity known only as the Great Intelligence.
The release gives fans the opportunity to enjoy the six new fully animated presentations of this lost classic, which will be released alongside the one surviving segment episode two.
Russell Minton, Executive Producer of The Abominable Snowmen, said:
“We’re delighted to announce Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen, something Doctor Who fans have been waiting patiently for over the years. We’re grateful for the surviving audio-only recordings, which we are very lucky to have courtesy of several Doctor Who fans, which have allowed us to create another exciting and action-packed chapter in the Doctor’s story.”
Actor Bernard Holley, known for his roles in Doctor Who, has died aged 81, his family has confirmed.
Holley became a household name during the late 1960s and early 1970s at the height of Z-Cars’ popularity, starring as Pc Newcombe in 277 episodes.
He also played two separate roles in Doctor Who, as Peter Haydon in “The Tomb Of The Cybermen” in 1967 and as an Axon in “The Claws Of Axos” in 1971.

Holley was also a reader on children’s television series Jackanory between 1974 and 1991.
Long-term friend and fellow actor Toby Hadoke said:
“(Bernard) was an actor whose easy naturalism made small screen acting look easier than it is.
Holley fought against the Cybermen as “Peter Haydon” Doctor Who: The Tomb of the Cybermen in 1967.
“It’s no surprise he made TV his home so early on and that directors went to him again and again.
“He was always totally believable, communicating a lot by doing very little and he had a natural warmth and charm that made him easy to watch and a likeable performer.
“He was such a reliable and welcome presence I think everyone thought they kind of knew him.”
With a heavy heart and the family’s permission I am sad to announce the death this morning of that warm, naturalistic and popular actor Bernard Holley – PC Newcombe in Z-Cars, Mike Turnbull in The Gentle Touch, Axos in Doctor Who and Jackanory reader. Holley, who was born on August 9 1941, died on Monday morning following a long-term illness.
He is survived by his wife Jean, to whom he was married for more than 50 years, their son Michael, grandchildren Marley and Isla and five brothers and two sisters.
