The eight zones set within this educational exhibition cover a diverse selection of exciting scientific topics while drawing in content pieces from the full canon of the TV show.
Visitors can journey through Cosmic Curiosities, while discovering more about the time traveling Police Box in the TARDIS Tech room, learning about the science behind time travel and whether it is really possible. Or visit the Monster Vault to get up close with some of the weird and wonderful characters that have graced our screens.
The user journey for this engaging experience will take approximately 90 minutes, inspiring schools, family groups and fans of the show. Tickets will be available for purchase to the general public from October 2021.
Paula Al-Lach, BBC Studios Events Director, Live Entertainment said that the team were…

The iconic characters, monsters, stories, and settings of the television series provide a perfect guide through the wondrous worlds of space, time and life sciences.”
Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder: Where Science meets Fiction will be touring the UK from May 2022, with further international tours dates being planned.
Jodie Whittaker sends message to CBeebies presenter and Doctor Who fan
Jodie Whittaker had a special message for new CBeebies presenter George Webster on today’s Good Morning Britain – after he revealed that he was a huge Doctor Who fan.
In a pre-recorded video message, Whittaker told him:
“George my name is Jodie Whittaker. I play the doctor in Doctor Who. I’m currently in the TARDIS.
“I have heard some very exciting news. Someone told me you’re a Doctor Who fan and I’m so chuffed. I think you are absolutely smashing it on CBeebies and I’m so chuffed for you. I think you’re doing a brilliant job.
“I send you loads and loads of love and a high five. I hope one day we get to meet, mate. Bye buddy!”
George was clearly delighted with the message and told Susannah Reid: “I love that, thank you so much.”
Webster, who is the first ever CBeebies presenter with Downs Syndrome, was appearing on the programme to discuss his new role after he was announced as one of the channel’s new presenters last week.
Speaking about his appointment, he said: “‘It does feel really really good. I’d like to say, dream big and live your life and hard work really pays off.”
He added: “You have to take any opportunity, it’s always exciting and you have to live your own life and not let people tell you to live a different life.”
And he joked that he would love to follow in Whittaker’s footsteps and take over as the new Doctor – or perhaps even replace Daniel Craig as the new James Bond.
Russell T Davies to return as Doctor Who showrunner
Multi award-winning Russell T Davies will take control of the TARDIS once more as the next Doctor Who showrunner, succeeding Chris Chibnall, who departs next year.
Russell T Davies will make an explosive return to screens to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who in 2023, and series beyond. BBC Studios is partnering with Bad Wolf to produce.
Responsible for Doctor Who’s revival in 2005, Davies is credited with propelling the show into a global phenomenon and making it one of TV’s biggest hits.
His tenure on the show oversaw a surge in popularity, enjoying huge acclaim and success. The Doctor won the nation’s hearts through his masterful relaunch, which led him to create two spin-off series, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, during that time.
Davies left the show in 2009. A lifelong Doctor Who fan, he has most recently achieved huge success with Years And Years, A Very English Scandal and It’s A Sin, which won Best New Drama at the National TV Awards this month.
Russell T Davies says:
“I’m beyond excited to be back on my favourite show. But we’re time-travelling too fast, there’s a whole series of Jodie Whittaker’s brilliant Doctor for me to enjoy, with my friend and hero Chris Chibnall at the helm – I’m still a viewer for now.”
Chris Chibnall says:
“It’s monumentally exciting and fitting that Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary will see one of Britain’s screenwriting diamonds return home. Russell built the baton that is about to be handed back to him. Doctor Who, the BBC, the screen industry in Wales – and let’s be honest everyone in the whole world – have so many reasons to be Very Excited Indeed about what lies ahead.”
Piers Wenger, BBC Director of Drama, says:
“As the 13th Doctor prepares to embark on new and extraordinary adventures, the winds of change are blowing… bringing with them news to delight Doctor Who fans across the globe. We are thrilled that Russell is returning to Doctor Who to build on the huge achievements of Chris and Jodie. Thank you to the two of them and the team in Cardiff for all they continue to do for the show and hello Russell, it’s wonderful to have you back.”
The next Doctor will be announced in due course.
Analysis by BBC Entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba
It’s nearly 18 years to the day since the BBC announced that Doctor Who was returning, more than a decade after it was axed. No Doctor or companion had yet been cast, but it was confirmed that Russell T Davies would be in charge of the show. At the time, the lifelong Doctor Who fan was best known as the writer of Queer As Folk (he even managed to briefly squeeze robot dog K9 into the series).
Few predicted how huge it would become upon its return, and Davies is the man credited with much of that success. As showrunner he oversaw every creative aspect of the science fiction drama, wrote many of its scripts, and was an exceptionally hands-on executive producer – the book The Writer’s Tale, a diary of daily emails and text messages between Davies and journalist Benjamin Cook. details the attention to detail he gave to almost every part of the show, from approving merchandise designs to overseeing the plans for media events.
His unexpected return to the show has delighted many, because if there is a recent golden era of Doctor Who, it’s arguably when Davies was in charge, with the programme attracting huge viewing figures and racking up awards and critical acclaim.
With the exception of the Doctor Who TV movie with Paul McGann, Doctor Who has always been produced purely by the BBC. But from 2023 it will be a co-production with Bad Wolf. The production house was founded by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner who worked alongside Davies during his time on Doctor Who. Tranter was the BBC’s head of drama, Gardner was an executive producer on the show. Both are seen as less high profile, but still crucially important parts of Doctor Who’s previous success.
Piers Wenger, the BBC’s director of drama, said the news of Davies’ return would “delight Doctor Who fans across the globe”.
“We are thrilled that Russell is returning to Doctor Who to build on the huge achievements of Chris and Jodie,” he continued. “Russell, it’s wonderful to have you back.”
‘What a coup’
Davies’ return was also welcomed by Bad Wolf, the production company founded in 2015 by former BBC executives Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter.
Gardner and Tranter both worked with Davies on the Doctor Who relaunch and will collaborate with him again when he returns as showrunner.
“We are delighted to be joining Russell T Davies on a looped ontological paradox,” said the Bad Wolf Twitter account. “Where Russell goes, we are proud to follow.
“With BBC Studios, Bad Wolf will be producing the all-new series of Doctor Who. It is a privilege to be asked to support him in Doctor Who’s future.”
Actor Matt Lucas, who played companion Nardole during Capaldi’s time as the Doctor, was evidently delighted with the news.
“Russell T Davies back in the Tardis! What a coup! I’m buzzing!” wrote the Bake Off presenter and Little Britain comic on Twitter.
John Bishop bids farewell to Doctor Who as he wraps up filming for final time.
John Bishop has bid farewell to Doctor Who after wrapping up on his last day of filming, reflecting on his ‘brilliant’ experiences on the show.
The comedian and actor is set to star alongside the departing Jodie Whittaker as Dan, the Time Lord’s new companion, in the upcoming 13th series of the sci-fi series.
John, 54, has kept details of his role close to his chest so far – despite what the BBC say – but he had some encouraging words for fans as he left the set for the final time.
Posting a video on social media, he told his followers: ‘Well, that’s a wrap. That’s the last day on Doctor Who completed.
‘[It’s been] nearly a year of my life, and I wasn’t expecting to do it at all. It’s been absolutely brilliant. I wouldn’t have swapped it for anything.’
Speaking about his experiences behind the scenes, John added: ‘I know you haven’t seen it yet, but honestly it’s been amazing. Everyone’s been great.’
Finally, he joked:
‘I’m so grateful to them, and I’ve also got loads of great material from it.’
Doctor Who fans will have to wait patiently to see John in action, with the release date for the upcoming episodes yet to be revealed.
What we do know, though, is that some seriously big changes are expected after the 13th series.
Doctor Who herself Jodie Whittaker and current showrunner Chris Chibnall are both leaving the show after three series, with Jodie’s successor yet to be announced.
News has reached us that actor John Challis has died at the age of 79. He was best known for playing Boycie in the long running BBC comedy “Only Fools and Horses” however Doctor Who fans will remember him for playing Scorby in all six episodes of the 1976 story “The Seeds of Doom” starring Tom Baker as The Doctor.
Tributes have been coming in from his many friends, fans and followers…
MEDIA STATEMENT FROM THE FAMILY OF JOHN CHALLIS Sunday September 19, 2021
“It is with heavy hearts that we bring you such sad news. Our dear friend and yours, John Challis, has died peacefully in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer.
We are saddened that the wonderful John Challis who played Boycie so brilliantly in Only Fools and Horses and The Green Green Grass has passed away at 79. We adored working with John and will always treasure his on-screen brilliance. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. pic.twitter.com/JbNCpV8KVG
Marlene without Boycie-it’s unthinkable. John Challis was my partner on screen and stage for 36 years and my beloved friend. R.I.P. darling John. I will miss you every day.
Oh my goodness. My friend John Challis has died. What a lovely man he was funny warm and a great lover of his garden and nature. We are all the poorer for his loss.
John Challis was part of one of my favourite scenes in Doctor Who – as his surprisingly nuanced Scorby trains his gun on the Doctor to no avail, but when he turns that pistol on Sarah… pic.twitter.com/7L6ZtVc9LT
John Challis RIP cannot believe it. Fe used to say to me "Franklyn my dear boy how the devil are you boxed anybody round the ears recently?" Loved all the TV he did. pic.twitter.com/4jyWraTDUe
John Challis was a very good actor – the disparity between the comic bravado of Boycie & the cold menace of Scorby in Doctor Who is a stark illustration of that – but he was also extremely approachable & helpful. Good company too, as this interview proves:https://t.co/EwV9pBFFbd
Challis was born in Bristol but when he was one year old, the family moved to south east London. Challis attended the state boarding Ottershaw School near Woking, Surrey. After leaving school, he worked as a trainee estate agent.
An early television role was in the gangster drama Big Breadwinner Hog in 1969, and between 1971 and 1975 he made regular appearances in Z-Cars as Sergeant Culshaw.
The Richard Beckinsale sitcom Bloomers (1979) was written about Challis’s experience working at a garden centre while taking a break from acting.
Challis was best known for playing Herman Terrance Aubrey “Boycie” Boyce in Only Fools and Horses (1981—2003). The series’ writer, John Sullivan, also created a spin-off for Challis, The Green Green Grass (2005—2009). The outdoor scenes of The Green Green Grass were filmed at his then home, surrounding fields and local villages.
John Challis (right) as Scorby in “Doctor Who: The Seeds of Doom” (1976)
His other television appearances include Dixon of Dock Green, Thriller, The Sweeney, Doctor Who (The Seeds of Doom), Dracula, Beau Geste, Juliet Bravo, Coronation Street, Bloomers, Citizen Smith, Ever Decreasing Circles, Doctor Snuggles, Chance in a Million, The Bill, One Foot in the Grave, Open All Hours, The New Statesman, Don’t Wait Up, Soldier Soldier, Brass Eye, My Family, In Sickness and in Health, Benidorm and Heartbeat. In the 2008 series of Last of the Summer Wine he guest-starred as a fake jewel thief trying to impress the ladies. During Challis’ appearance in the Channel 4 mockumentary television programme Brass Eye, he was tricked into believing Clive Anderson had been shot by Noel Edmonds.
On BBC radio, he played an interrogator in the play Rules of Asylum by James Follett, broadcast by BBC Radio 4 in 1973. He also played Dibden Purlew in Getting Nowhere Fast from 2001 to 2004. In 2006 he took a cameo role in BBC’s The Impressionists as Station Master Garre Saint Lézasr.
In 2012, he became the narrator of the National Geographic Channel series Strippers: Cars for Cash.
He became an honorary citizen of Serbia, where Only Fools and Horses remains hugely popular. Challis made the documentary Boycie In Belgrade, exploring why the show was so beloved in the Balkan country.

Missing adventure ‘Galaxy Four’ to be animated in 2021
Galaxy Four, the mostly-missing serial starring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, has been given the animation treatment.
It will be released on 15th November 2021 on DVD, Blu-ray and as an exclusive Steelbook this year, filling another gap in missing Doctor Who episodes.
Galaxy 4 (alternatively spelled Galaxy Four) is the mostly-missing first serial of the third season of Doctor Who, which originally aired in four weekly episodes from 11th September to 2nd October 1965.
Audio-only recordings of all four episodes have survived from this classic story, and have been used to create a brand new, fully animated story, filling the gaps alongside the original surviving Episode 3 and over five minutes of original footage from the otherwise lost Episode 4.
The Doctor and his travel companions, Vicki and Steven land the TARDIS on a planet which is on the verge of total annihilation, as it drifts too close to the three suns it orbits. Trapped on the planet with them are the Drahvins, a race of warrior women, and the Reptillian Rills.
The Drahvins want to steal the Rills spacehip to escape the planet’s death throes, and enlist the Doctor’s help, which he is forced to give when Maaga, the cunning Drahvin leader, keeps Vicki and Steven as hostage. Even though the Doctor is determined to broker a peace deal between the two sides, Maaga doesn’t trust him, or the Rills…
This two disc release gives fans the opportunity to enjoy the four new animated episodes of Galaxy Four in either colour or black and white. The release will also include:
Remastered surviving original footage of Episode 3
Christopher Eccleston will return as the Ninth Doctor for a second time with Big Finish, in twelve more exciting audio adventures in time and space, due for release throughout 2022 and 2023.
Christopher Eccleston said:
“Just before Christmas in 2020, I walked into a small recording studio in an industrial estate in North London. Me and the sound engineer looked at each other and we smiled and say, ‘Let’s go!’ Then I started playing the Ninth Doctor again, and I loved it.
“It’s been one of the great joys for me of the past year. It’s a lovely way to do it, so I’m coming back to record more.”
The second series of audio adventures will be made available in three formats – Collector’s Edition CD, digital download or limited-edition gatefold triple LP vinyl.
These brand new stories will be told across four box sets, which are due for release throughout 2022 and 2023.
Producer David Richardson teases:
“From an old railway station to the seas of Titan, to a very unusual furniture store in the present day, it’s another trip of a lifetime – and I can’t wait to be back in the studio again in October, where we will bring these words to brilliant life. Recording the first season with Chris was one of the happiest times at Big Finish, and I feel privileged to be going back for more.”

The Doctor’s daughter returns, and this time she’s facing her father’s enemies…
Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter: Still Running features the return of Georgia Tennant in the title role, as she travels throughout the galaxies with her friend Noah. Across these four brand new audio adventures, she runs into Dorium Maldovar, fights the Cybermen and is reunited with bounty hunter Colt-5000 in a showdown that could come with a cost…
Jenny was made as a soldier but has a Time Lord’s heritage – and that Time Lord is the Doctor. Exploring the universe, Jenny found a friend – Noah, a mystery boy from nowhere.
Together they’re ready to save planets, fight monsters, and save the day with nothing but wit and instinct – and an awful lot of running.
The four new adventures are:
Inside the Maldorvarium
Jenny and Noah find a priceless item up for auction at a disreputable venue – with an even less trustworthy owner. Dorium Maldovar might seem pleased to see them, but what’s his real agenda? Is Jenny here by chance, or is someone spinning a web…?
Altered Status
On a utopian world, the perfect society toils towards its worthy ‘Cause’. But the hard-working Suits are more than they seem, and the Department Head is something else altogether. And when Jenny and Noah scratch the surface, they find silver underneath. The Cybermen are coming…
Calamity Jenny
When Noah and Jenny mosey on into the Old West, it’s surely a coincidence that Jenny looks exactly like the town’s most notorious outlaw. But as they’ll discover, anyone who crosses ‘Calamity Jenny’ suffers an unlucky fate – and it’s usually fatal.
Her Own Worst Enemy
Jenny wants bounty hunter cyborg Colt-5000 off their trail once and for all. Her plan involves cybertech founder Seavus Colt, time travel, and showing somebody the true value of their life. But the web of time can’t be pulled apart without a cost…
Georgia Tennant said:
“My favourite Who monster is the Cybermen – I did a school project on Doctor Who (unsurprisingly) when I was about 7 years old, and I specialised in the Cybermen, so her meeting them is a dream!
And her and Noah’s sibling relationship has developed in this series – they’ve got to know each other much better. Each has a quality the other one doesn’t have. Jenny’s a bit more reckless, and Noah’s a bit more steadfast and reliable.”
Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter: Still Running is available to pre-order from Big Finish, here
