Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill to appear in special New York Comic-Con Doctor Who panel

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill to appear in special New York Comic-Con Doctor Who panel

The TARDIS-travelling pair will be taking a look back at their last two years on the BBC sci-fi drama.

Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill in Doctor Who (BBC)

Missing all the Doctor Who chat ever since series 12 finished back in March? Well, you’re in luck – because it sounds like the press machine is lumbering back to life ahead of upcoming festive special Revolution of the Daleks, with Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill confirmed to be attending a special Doctor Who panel at the upcoming New York Comic-Con.

Hosted by moderator Melanie McFarland, the panel will apparently shine “a new spotlight” on Doctor Who as the pair “look back at their epic past two seasons in the TARDIS, which have been packed with shocking twists, turns and surprises,” and the whole thing is set to stream live online on Thursday 8th October at 2:45pm ET (that’s about 7:45PM UK time, if you’re wondering).

From the sounds of it, this panel will be resolutely focused on the duo’s Doctor Who past – quite pointedly, the event description says they’ll “discuss their favourite moments to date” – but with only a couple of months between the panel and the episode’s probable airing, it seems unlikely that the topic of Revolution of the Daleks can be skirted entirely.

That’s what we’re telling ourselves anyway, as we clutch our “Captain Jack Lives” banners and eagerly await the Dalek Civil War.

And who knows? Maybe the fact that only Whittaker and Gill are in the line-up suggests that the rumours about co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole departing the series this winter weren’t greatly exaggerated after all. Or maybe their internet connections just aren’t good enough to join in with what (we assume) will be another virtual panel.

Still, even if Whittaker and Gill just keep it nostalgic, we’re sure fans will be delighted to see them reunited and chatting all things Who. We have to keep ourselves going until the festive special arrives somehow…

Doctor Who: Revolution of the Daleks comes to BBC One in late 2020/early 2021.

Nicholas Briggs said:

“This latest, fantastic, thrill-packed venture into the world of animation, with the Daleks as the stars of the show, is something so many of us have been craving for years. And for me it’s been a marvellous challenge, as usual playing every single Dalek in action, but with the added excitement of portraying some beautifully written, leading Dalek characters. It’s been a blast, and I can’t wait to see the finished production.”

Joe Sugg said:

“I’m super excited and thankful to have been invited to play a role in this new animation. I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who from a young age so to be a part of it is a dream come true.”

Anjli Mohindra said:

“When I saw that this series was about THOSE iconic villains I knew it was going to be one hell of a ride and I couldn’t wait to sign up!! I had so much fun being thrown into the wonderfully weird world of remote recording and so thrilled that I was able to be part of something that feel so special!”

Ayesha Antoine said:

“I have never been more fascinated to see the final product of a show. To be a part of the animated story of these iconic baddies is really special. The recording session was a whole new adventure – another surreal moment to add to the growing list from 2020.”

BritBox has revealed a host of new content that will be joining the streaming service in the UK this month, including two classic Doctor Who films.

The latest selection of shows and movies will be joining the cult-themed Out of this World collection, which already includes some iconic series such as Thunderbirds and Space: 1999.

From September 10, subscribers will be able to watch 1965’s Doctor Who and the Daleks, the first big screen spin-off of the television series featuring The Doctor’s ultimate enemy.

In a slightly different take on the beloved franchise, this film portrays Peter Cushing’s Doctor as an eccentric inventor from Earth who, when showing off his TARDIS to his granddaughters and one of their boyfriends, somehow manages to whisk them away to the planet Skaro, the home of the Daleks.

DW 50: Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. (1966) | Monster ...

Also joining BritBox is Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 AD, Cushing’s second feature-length outing as The Doctor. This time, in the distant future, he leads a human rebellion against the evil, encased aliens, who have claimed the planet for themselves.

Both of these movies will be available on the streaming service from September 10, as will all 52 episodes of cult British sci-fi show Blake’s 7. From this date, you’ll also be able to stream a selection of episodes from the classic agent-thriller series The Avengers.

Fantasy-adventure movie One Million Years BC will also be available, as will the sci-fi horror Quatermass and the Pit and the David Bowie sci-fi drama The Man Who Fell to Earth.

From September 17, all three series of Terry Nation’s science fiction drama Survivors will also be available to stream.

Five exciting novelisations set in Earth’s past history, featuring the Doctor and their friends.

In Doctor Who – The Gunfighters the TARDIS arrives in the heart of the Old Wild West, just as Wyatt Earp’s in town. In Doctor Who – The Highlanders the scene is the Battle of Culloden, 1746, where the Scots are fighting the English, and serves as the introduction of the Doctor’s friend, Jamie. In Doctor Who and the War Games the Doctor and friends seem to arrive in the trenches of the First World War, but appearances can be deceptive (this story has the first appearance of the Time Lords!).

Doctor Who and the Talons of Weng-Chiang takes the Doctor and Leela to Victorian London, and a battle with a foe from the future. Finally, in Doctor Who – Black Orchid, the Fifth Doctor and friends are entertained at a 1920s country house – where murder is afoot.

Shane Rimmer, Anneke Wills, David Troughton, Christopher Benjamin and Michael Cochrane are the readers of these five classic stories, first published as Target Books paperbacks.

Geoffrey Beevers read this exciting novelisation of a classic Fourth Doctor adventure

For ages past, the Union of Traken has lived in peace and harmony thanks to the power of the Source, controlled by generations of Keepers. But the current Keeper, his powers waning, senses some all-pervading evil about to invade his world. He summons the Doctor to his aid. To save Traken the Doctor fights the terrifying Melkur – only to find that this new enemy conceals an older and even deadlier foe – one the Doctor has encountered before…

Geoffrey Beevers, who played the Master in the TV series, reads Terrance Dicks’s novelisation of a 1981 TV serial by Johnny Byrne, the penultimate story of the Fourth Doctor’s era. This story is also an introduction for the Doctor’s friend, Nyssa

This narrated TV soundtrack stars William Hartnell as the Doctor in one of his most weird and wonderful adventures.

In this vintage six-part serial, first shown on BBC TV in February and March 1965, a strange magnetic force pulls the TARDIS down to the craterous surface of Vortis. The Doctor and his friends learn that the planet has been invaded, and the parasitic Animus is slowly enveloping it in a web-like domain. The giant ant-like Zarbi are under its control, whilst the butterfly-like Menoptra are battling to reclaim their planet.

Narrated by Maureen O’Brien, this full-cast soundtrack evokes a classic Doctor Who adventure in all its aural magnificence. The alien ambience of Vortis, the insistent chirruping of the Zarbi, and the supernatural voice of the Animus are all accompanied by the eerie sonics of Ron Grainer & Delia Derbyshire’s theme tune.

Written by Bill Strutton, this was the Doctor’s most exotic and lavish adventure yet.
