According to the holiday issue of TV Choice magazine, the title of the Doctor Who New Year’s special is Resolution.
In an interview in the magazine, Jodie Whittaker praised the script.
“When I first read the script, it was really exciting, because it touches on so many elements of Doctor Who, in the sense that it brings moments that are familiar, but then also it has a very modern feel to it.”
Tosin Cole also commented about Ryan, who is estranged from his
father, who deserted him when he was very young. Ryan’s father Aaron is
believed to be played by Daniel Adegboyega in Resolution.
“It’s going to be a very heartfelt episode for [Ryan],
and an emotional journey. Basically, all the things that he was going
through at the beginning of the series are rushing back, and we see how
he deals with that.”
“We can’t say if any of us will be back for the next season.
Who knows what will happen to our characters in the New Year’s Day
episode?”
Bradley Walsh hinted at a surprise in the special.
“There are some interlocking things in the show ‒ viewers
will say, ‘Wow, I didn’t see that coming!’ Hopefully the audience will
see not just an adventure and escapism, which it it, but also realism
and family drama.”
Mandip Gill was more specific about the action in the special.
“There’s a car chase and explosion ‒ it’s bigger than the other episodes!”
In TV & Satellite Week magazine, Gill echoed Tosin Cole’s comment
about the possibility one character might not return for Series 12.
“I can’t say much. We don’t know what’s coming in the
next series, but if that was to happen, it would be for the right
reasons.”

The first female Time Lord is sticking around for at least one more season. The first female Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker, will be returning for another season. While it was largely presumed that Whittaker wouldn’t be handing over her sonic screwdriver anytime soon, the typically tight-tipped BBC hadn’t yet confirmed who would be playing Doctor Who for season 12 of the cult sci-fi series, and there was always the chance that she could go the way of Christopher Eccleston, who managed just one stint as the Time Lord. “I really can’t wait to step back in and get to work again,” Whittaker told The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s such an incredible role. It’s been an extraordinary journey so far and I’m not quite ready to hand it over yet.”
Whittaker’s unveiling as the star of Doctor Who last year was met with widespread praise, and her first season in the role – the first female Doctor in the show’s 55-year history – has so far been hugely well-received by the critics.
The opening episode of season 11, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth,” amassed consolidated ratings of 10.9 million in the U.K., making it the biggest season launch for the show since it returned in its modern form (Eccleston’s first episode reached 10.8 million, when non-TV viewing was far less of a phenomenon). The 11th season of Doctor Who draws to a close on Sunday, with the show returning for a New Year’s Day special. Season 12 is expected to start shooting in early 2019.
Doctor Who is a BBC Studios production for BBC One and a BBC America co-production.

Doctor Who New Year’s special casts Call the Midwife and Save Me stars
Jodie Whittaker will be joined by her regular team of assistants for Doctor Who‘s New Year’s special – as well as a trio of brand-new co-stars.
The BBC has confirmed that Charlotte Ritchie will play a character called Lin, Nikesh Patel will play Mitch and Daniel Adegboyega will star as Aaron.
But their character names are all that’s been revealed for now.
You’ll probably otherwise know Charlotte Ritchie as Barbara Gilbert (later Hereward) from Call the Midwife. She also played Oregon in Fresh Meat and Hannah in Siblings.
Nikesh Patel is best known for his role as Aafrin Dalal in Channel 4 drama Indian Summers, while Daniel Adegboyega starred as Bertram in Save Me.
Alongside Jodie’s Doctor, Tosin Cole (Ryan), Bradley Walsh (Graham) and Mandip Gill (Yaz) will all be appearing in the festive instalment.
Written by showrunner Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip, the hour-long episode will see the Doctor, Ryan, Yaz and Graham arrive home – only to come across a new alien threat to planet Earth.
“We’re thrilled to be starting the New Year with a bang on BBC One, as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends face a terrifying alien threat in an action-packed, hour-long special adventure for all the family,” Chibnall said.
BBC’s director of content Charlotte Moore added: “We’re delighted the Doctor and her companions will be welcoming BBC One audiences into 2019 with this exciting new episode. The Doctor’s fans are in for a special treat on the first day of the new year.”
Doctor Who‘s New Year’s special will air on January 1 on BBC One. The Doctor Who series 11 finale ‘The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos’ airs this Sunday, December 9 at 6.25pm.
Marco Polo, The Dalek Audio Annual and more! Doctor Who releases from BBC Audio for December
December sees the release of a range of brand new Doctor Who audiobooks from BBC Audio.
December’s publication of Marco Polois bittersweet, as it was the last professional engagement for reader Zienia Merton, who died in September. In spite of her illness, Zienia was determined to read John Lucarotti’s novelisation of the 1964 TV serial in which she played Ping- Cho, and she did so beautifully. Be transported to far and distant lands in her company.
The Doctor’s arch enemies are to be found marauding and conquesting — this time without their nemesis in sight — in The Dalek Audio Annual, a fabulously full-bodied collection of adventure stories taken from World Distributors’ mid-1970s Dalek annuals. Nicholas Briggs, Louise Jameson and Matthew Waterhouse are on hand to fight them off — or go down trying. This is a spin-off from our two previous Doctor Who Audio Annuals which have been popularly received by nostalgic older fans.
The Second Alien Worlds Collectionbrings fantastic value in a digital-only package, as no fewer than five unabridged Target Book readings are made available under one title. This collection takes listeners on a giddying ride through the Universe via the voices of some of BBC Audio’s most popular readers: William Russell, Geoffrey Beevers, Mark Gatiss and John Leeson.

Yorkshire’s Doctor Who fans could be sitting on a windfall
Doctor Who memorabilia hiding in Yorkshire’s homes could be worth thousands of pounds according to expert research. Shopping specialists PromotionalCodes.org.uk have revealed the high price tags that could be attached to relics from previous series, to coincide with Jodie Whittaker’s triumph as the first female in the famous TV role.
Doctor Who merchandise at Forbidden Planet International in Sheffield. Pictured are Richard Smith, Joe Smith and Dan Liles.
The research should alert fans of the sci-fi series to their potentially valuable Doctor Who collectibles stashed away – so it could be time to exterminate the clutter and make some quick, easy money. Prized possessions are generally memorabilia with a limited release or associated with older series, such as two original Daleks that sold for £36,000 in 2005 and £38,500 in 2016 respectively.
The former was a Dalek Supreme from ‘Destiny of the Daleks’ (1979) and ‘Revelation of the Daleks’ (1984). The latter, meanwhile, was sold by a collector who was clearing out his home and downsizing at his wife’s strict instruction and fetched double its expected price at an auction house, despite being repainted red. A full-size model that a fan can get inside and move, with an operable Human Detector and Dalek Ray, the pricey Dalek was from the 1966 film ‘Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 AD’ It was one of three given away for free in a 1967 competition by Sugar Puffs, which asked children to rank the top six qualities for fighting Daleks.
A season 19 Cyberman from the same collection sold for £2,000 and a TARDIS from a stage show for £1,000, both also in 2016. Other Cybermen models have sold for eight and nine thousand pounds at auction in recent years, while a headpiece accessory from ‘The Caves of Androzani’ episode (Peter Davison’s last, in March 1984) sold for £5,000 – several times its guide price. Mass produced toys from recent years are unlikely to have gained much value, but even a limited edition sonic screwdriver could fetch a few hundred pounds to the right buyer. Items used in broadcasts this century, though, are often still collected and cherished by Sci-Fi fans, with a David Tennant Christmas special costume and a Matt Smith suit sold for £5,000 and £2,625 respectively in 2010.
Darren Williams of PromotionalCodes.org.uk said:
“Brits who think they might have Doctor Who memorabilia languishing in lofts should start digging immediately, as they could be sat on a large windfall.”
BBC Studios to release brand new animation of 1967 Doctor Who missing serial The Macra Terror
The 4 x 25 min missing episodes, which were originally part of Doctor Who’s (now mostly lost) fourth season, have been animated for the first time, to be released on DVD, Blu-ray, special edition Steelbook and digital download.
Pre-order will be available from midnight tonight on Amazon and HMV.
Originally broadcast in four weekly parts from 11th March to 1st April 1967, and starring Patrick Troughton, Anneke Wills, Michael Craze and Frazer Hines, no full episodes of this serial are known to have survived on film. Fortunately for fans, a complete audio recording of all four parts still exists. Now, 52 years later, the four episodes will be brought back to life through the power of animation, available on disc and digital download, in both colour and black and white, from 18th March 2019.
Anneke Wills says, ‘Back in 1967 “There’s no such thing as Macra!” was the cry; and for many years after there was no such thing as “The Macra Terror”. Now, thanks to the magic of animation, we can see the story come to life again. I can’t wait to see this adventure and how gratifying to have a little more of Ben and Polly’s time with the Doctor available to be seen by new generations.’
The Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and his companions arrive on a human colony in the far flung future. The colony appears to be a giant recreational complex – a holiday camp for rest and relaxation. Everyone looks happy and carefree but all is not as it seems. The colony has been infiltrated and brainwashed by a race of giant parasitic crab creatures called the Macra.
The Macra have only returned once since, 40 years later, coming face to face with the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) in the 2007 episode Gridlock.
Paul Hembury, Executive Producer, BBC Studios says, ‘After the success of Shada, we were very excited by the possibility of further animations. We are therefore delighted to be able to bring fans these missing episodes in a completely new form.’
Special features for the DVD and Blu-ray release include: Animation Gallery, Behind the Scenes Film and Audio Commentary.
Doctor Who: The Macra Terror will be released on digital download, DVD (RRP £20.42), Blu-ray (RRP £25.52) and special edition Steelbook (RRP £40.84) on 18th March 2019. Pre-order from midnight tonight from Amazon (all SKUs) and HMV: DVD, Blu-ray, Steelbook.
A special screening of Doctor Who: The Macra Terror will be held at the BFI Southbank, London on the 16th March 2019. Tickets will go on sale to BFI members on Tuesday 5th February with public sale opening on Tuesday 12th February. Further information will be available soon via the BFI website.

Peter Jackson told Yahoo News that he is still interested in directing Doctor Who.
“I haven’t had to chance because I’ve been so busy on these films. I just have to get invited, and asked, and if we can figure it out, I would love to do a Doctor Who.”
Jackson has been busy directing and promoting Mortal Engines, which hits cinemas December 8. He offered to let the Doctor Who production team use the sets from his film.
“We’ve got a few spare giant moving cities we could throw into the mix.”
“We could offer that up to help the BBC budget!”
Former Doctor Who Showrunner Steven Moffat had previously revealed: “I’ve spoken to [Peter Jackson] face to face, and he would like to do one. He accepts that there’s no money and that there’s no time, and it would have to be when he’s available… I think it will probably happen at some point.”
In an interview with Omelete, executive producer Brian Minchin commented: “Peter Jackson should … come talk to us to direct an episode soon.”
In a hilarious video uploaded to his Facebook profile in 2015, Peter Jackson shared a clip of Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, appearing in character as the Doctor in Peter Jackon’s kitchen, with a very important letter to deliver.
