Mark Gatiss talks Doctor Who Series 10 EP

Mark Gatiss talks Doctor Who Series 10 EP

Writer and actor Mark Gatiss has been talking in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine about his new episode for Series 10.

Gatiss has written eight episodes of Doctor Who since its return in 2005 including classics such as The Unquiet Dead, Cold War and The Crimson Horror. His story for 2017 will be his ninth for the televised show.

His most recent episode was 2015’s Sleep No More, starring Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman with Mark’s League of Gentlemen co-star, Reece Shearsmith.

This is what the writer had to tell Doctor Who Magazine about his new episode, which is yet to be filmed:

“… with the new companion, Pearl [Mackie, who plays Bill in the 2017 series], Steven said, ‘You can’t pretend that people aren’t aware of sci-fi,’ so she’s actually saying things like, ‘Is it like that bit in that film –?’ (Laughs)

In my new one, I’ve got a running joke about these films, because the Doctor doesn’t know what she’s talking about, because he doesn’t watch sci-fi films. He’s going, ‘Is that the one where the little girl goes to see the wizard?’ ‘No!’”

You can read the full interview in DWM 508 on sale from January 12th 2017

Doctor Who Figures Coming Via Funko

Doctor Who Figures Coming Via Funko

“Doctor Who” and “Back to the Future” in Playmobil form.

Why should Lego fans have all the fun?

Thanks to a deal with toy maker Funko, Playmobil is offering a pop-culture line of 6-inch figures from popular movies and TV shows like “Doctor Who,” “Ghostbusters,” “Back to the Future,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Playmobil toys have been around since 1974 and have previously come in play set themes such as farm, hospital, knights, fire rescue, pirates, Vikings, sports and space.

The Playmobil figures of the original ’80s film version of “Ghostbusters” include parapsychologist research professors Raymond Stantz and Peter Venkman. Another great ’80s film, “Back to the Future,” gets figures for Marty McFly and Doc Brown.

“Willy Wonka” figures pay tribute to the candy maker and his Oompa Loompa assistants. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” figures include Leonardo, Michelangelo and Shredder. Fans can also collect a black and white version of Raphael, exclusively from Entertainment Earth.

Fans of the adventure-prone Time Lord will be happy to hear “Doctor Who” Playmobil figures include the Eleventh Doctor and Fourth Doctor.

These new pop culture Playmobil figures will be available in stores in January 2017.

A Doctor Who superfan has spent thousands of pounds transforming his garden shed into a life-sized TARDIS.

Paul Foden, 44, is obsessed with the Time Lord and has previous made models of a Dalek and the robotic dog K9.

But his latest project is the biggest of all after he decided to re-create the hit sci-fi show’s famous blue time machine .

Handyman Paul spent almost 12 months working on the 12ft tall TARDIS which now has pride of place in his back garden.

He said: “I’ve been working on it for nearly a year and I’m just adding the last few details.

“I watch Doctor Who and I thought the TARDIS would be interesting to build so I decided to have a go.

“It’s about passing time more than anything else.

“I’m proud because when I first started it I didn’t think it would turn out this well.

“I kept doing bits and bobs and it just came together. I have watched it for a long time now from the old series to the new series.

“Previously I have built a Cyberman and a Dalek but this is the biggest thing I’ve built so far.”

Incredibly, Paul managed to build the TARDIS, which comes complete with sound effects, a full control panel and electric lighting, just by looking at photos online.

The outer structure is made from a hexagonal shed and the roof is fiberglass to keep it water-tight.

Paul, who lives in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., added: “I had a look at a couple of pictures online and that was it, I went for it.

“I built all the components and the control panel. I only bought two accessories for it.

“I have always managed to build different things but this has been the biggest project.”

Paul, who works for a property company, received praise from fellow Doctor Who fans after he uploaded a video of the interior of his TARDIS onto YouTube.

His teenage son Lee is also a big fan and neighbours have even been dropping in to take a look at the time machine.

Paul said: “It’s become a small tourist attraction.”

Lee, 18, added: “It’s quite amazing because it’s not the sort of thing you see every day.

“He’s brilliant at building things and spends all his spare time doing it.

“If you have a photo of the real control panel you can hardly tell the difference, the detail is bob-on.”

Writer’s Alex Paknadel commentary

“I was obviously thrilled and honoured to be invited to write this year’s Free Comic Book Day Doctor Who offering from Titan. I can’t wait for everyone to see what artist Mariano Laclaustra and I are cooking up with Titan editorial and the BBC. This is almost certainly the widest audience I’ll ever reach, and that’s an awesome responsibility as well as a pretty neat privilege.

Accordingly, I’ll be fretting and worrying at this script probably more than any other in the run up to FCBD. I can tell you that it features all four of the modern era doctors – all of whom have their moment to shine. However, the big news here is that this FCBD special features the Titan Comics debut of Bill, the 12th Doctor’s brand new companion.

Finally, you can expect to see tantalising clues as to the future direction of your favourite Doctor Who titles, so that’s an awful lot of exclusive and season-critical content for the princely sum of zero pennies. I really hope everyone enjoys it.”

Free Comic Book Day takes place on May 6, 2017

DOCTOR WHO EVENT: THE PIRATE PLANET LAUNCH AT AT THE ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

DOCTOR WHO EVENT: THE PIRATE PLANET LAUNCH AT AT THE ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

Pirate Planet event

Acclaimed Doctor Who novelist James Goss and Dr Marek Kukula, the Public Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, discuss the science behind Doctor Who: The Pirate Planet by Douglas Adams.

Download an extract from The Pirate Planet here.

This novel, featuring Tom Baker’s Doctor, is based on a long-forgotten draft of the script found in the Douglas Adams archive in Cambridge. Unseen for 40 years and vastly different from the classic TV show, this is a work by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author that no-one has ever read, available now.

See the details of the event, which takes place on Jan 23, 2017, below. Book your FREE tickets here.

A DOCTOR WHO EVENING OF ASTRONOMICAL AND SCIENTIFIC CONVERSATION

Weaving together authoritative scientific discussion and the amazing mind of Douglas Adams, James Goss and Dr Marek Kukula explore the problems of piratical planets; impossible gravity; what it would be like to live on a hollow world; and the dastardly nature of Newton’s Revenge….

Attendees will also be able to see some of the amazing artefacts in the Royal Astronomical Society Collection, including the first edition of Isaac Newton’s Principia Mathematica (1687), in which Newton put forward his theory of gravity.
