Doctor Who 10 2

Production is well underway on the new season of Doctor Who, but filming of the new episodes apparently won’t be completed until nearly next Easter.

Season 10 began shooting in Cardiff in June and the BBC has announced an approximate start date of “spring 2017”.

An article on The Knowledge – known as the industry bible for film and TV professionals – reveals that Season 10’s shoot is set to wrap on 31 March 2017.

There were rumours circulating recently that the Doctor Who team would be heading to Vancouver to film scenes for Season 10 this October. However, a BBC Drama spokesperson has since stated: “With regards to Doctor Who filming in Western Canada, I can confirm that this is “not true.”

However, there are now rumours that the overseas filming is actually set to take place in the Canadian city of Toronto, where BBC America’s Orphan Black is filmed, hence the rather specific nature of the denial.

What are you most excited about seeing in Season 10? Let us know below…

Jenna Coleman not impressed after Kate Garraway asks her about Prince Harry

Jenna Coleman was NOT impressed when quizzed by Kate Garraway about her relationship with Prince Harry.

TV viewers accused the actress of pulling a ‘b***h face’ after the awkward exchange on Good Morning Britain.

Coleman was appearing on the ITV show to promote her new show The Young Victoria.

Things got a touch frosty when a giggling Kate asked Jenna about spending time with Harry, joking that it was to research her role as his great-great-great-great grandmother Queen Victoria.

Garraway quipped: ‘I’m guessing you’ve just been spending time with him solely for research purposes.’

Coleman replied: ‘He is a friend of mine.’

Fans couldn’t help but pick up on the tension even though she hid it well.

One wrote: ‘My new fav b***h face: Jenna Coleman being asked about her relationship with Prince Harry on GMB.’

While another commented: ‘Kate Garraway certainly peed off Jenna Coleman with that comment! #GMB.’

The star was applauded for keeping composed.

Jenna and Harry first sparked rumours of a possible romance when they were spotted getting cosy at a polo match last year.

The actress has been single since splitting with Game Of Thrones actor Richard Madden in 2015.

DOCTOR WHO’s War Doctor Gets a High-End Figure

DOCTOR WHO’s War Doctor Gets a High-End Figure

DOCTOR WHO’s War Doctor Gets a High-End Figure

One of the greatest things to come out of Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary was John Hurt‘s War Doctor, a previously unknown incarnation of the Doctor who fought in the Time War. Hurt’s performance in The Day of the Doctor gave the War Doctor his own following among Whovians, and now he’s getting his due from Big Chief Studios!

Big Chief Studios has announced a new War Doctor 1:6 scale collector figure that features a fully authorized likeness of Hurt with many of the accessories that he had in Day of the Doctor. So, he’s got his sonic screwdriver, the laser rifle he confiscated from a Gallifreyan soldier, a few interchangeable hands, a light-up display base, and even “the Moment,” the doomsday weapon with a conscience that eventually took the form of Billy Piper‘s Rose Tyler/Bad Wolf. We only get the box here, but we’d love to see the Moment’s Bad Wolf in the future!

As you can see in our gallery below, this is no mere statue. The War Doctor can be posed in several different positions, and it really seems to capture the persona that Hurt gave him onscreen.

The standard edition of the War Doctor figure will be limited to 1,000; and it will run about $248 plus shipping. There is also a signature edition of 300 units that come with an autograph plaque signed by Hurt with a certificate of authenticity. You can preorder it here, and it will be released in April 2017.

BBC sells music rights to Luther, Doctor Who and Wolf Hall

BBC sells music rights to Luther, Doctor Who and Wolf Hall

Music publisher BMG says it is honoured to be entrusted with hit shows’ theme tunes and incidental music .

The BBC has sold the rights to theme tunes and music from hit shows including Idris Elba’s Luther, Doctor Who and Wolf Hall.

BMG, the music company with artists including David Bowie, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger and Iron Maiden, has snapped up the potentially highly lucrative rights to more than 1,000 copyrights to theme tunes, background music and music cues in BBC shows.

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, only looks to sell the music rights to shows once every five or so years when it has built a decent archive of music from more recent shows.

Under the terms of the deal, BMG has acquired the rights to theme tunes from hit BBC programmes including Luther, Mrs Brown’s Boys and Frozen Planet as well as background, or incidental, music from Doctor Who and Wolf Hall. The catalogue includes works by Bafta-nominated composers including Murray Gold, for Doctor Who, Paul Englishby for Luther and Debbie Wiseman for Wolf Hall.

Alexi Cory-Smith, the executive vice-president of BMG UK, said: “It is a real honour to be entrusted with these great BBC works. Shows like Luther, Doctor Who and Mrs Brown’s Boys and many others in this catalogue are household names. We are committed to providing them with similarly unrivalled service and transparency.”

While BMG will now have the right to exploit the music for commercial use by companies including advertisers, studios and ad agencies, the BBC will retain a tight rein on ensuring its assets are not exploited negatively. BBC Worldwide has a similar brand protection in place in its deal with Immediate Media, which publishes its portfolio of magazines including Radio Times and Top Gear, with the corporation continuing to have brand oversight of its key assets.

“We’re looking forward to working with BMG to ensure the value of these compositions continues to be properly and appropriately recognised,” said Dominic Walker, the director of radio and music at BBC Worldwide.

BMG owns a range of music catalogues including Chrysalis, which includes artists such as Blondie, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gossip and David Gray, and Virgin Music, which includes publishing rights for Tears for Fears, Take That, Robbie Williams, Nirvana, Duffy and Iggy Pop.

The former companion said she was pleased that showrunner Steven Moffat had found “the right person for the right part” – and that she was in touch with star Peter Capaldi during filming.

It’s been nine months since Jenna Coleman left Doctor Who, and she’s about to embark on a new journey in ITV’s period drama Victoria. However, she still has one eye on her successor, new Who companion Pearl Mackie.

Speaking on the red carpet for the new drama, Coleman said she had been in contact with Peter Capaldi while they were filming the new series, and was intrigued to see how new character Bill settled in.

She also said that it wasn’t important that the show cast a non-white actor as the Doctor’s companion, saying that showrunner Steven Moffat instead concentrates on finding “the right person and the right actor for the part.”

“I think the way that Steven always casts is actor-led and I think that’s very important,” she said. “I think it has to be the right person and the right actor for the part.”

However, the Doctor’s longest-serving companion wasn’t exactly sure what we can expect from Mackie: “I’ve no idea, which is what’s really exciting! I spoke to Peter today and I know they’re shooting the new series, but I know nothing!”

But as for her own character, Coleman is certain that Clara won’t be returning to Who any time soon.

“I think I’d probably raise Steven’s blood pressure if I rang up and said ‘bring me back!’” Coleman said. “We’ve only just finished that story so I wouldn’t want to unpick it!”

Jenna Coleman will star in ITV’s Victoria, 9pm Sunday 28th August

Eve Myles: I would love to bring back Torchwood to TV

Torchwood fans, rejoice! Well, maybe. A month after John Barrowman announced he was on a mission to bring the Doctor Who spin-off back to screens, Eve Myles has also spoken of how much she has loved returning to her character Gwen Cooper.

When asked by RadioTimes.com if we’d get more Torchwood on TV, the actor said, “If I did I couldn’t possibly say… because of the consequences.” Well, a true Torchwood agent wouldn’t give up the secret that easily, would they?

However, Myles did divulge how much she has loved taking part in the recently completed audio plays: “They’ve been amazing…We’ve had an astonishing response to them. But then again the fans of Torchwood have been loyal since day one – they’ve been amazing!

“[The audio plays] keeps the fans alive with brilliant storylines and keeps bringing the characters back – even those that have passed away in the series. It’s Torchwood; you can do anything with it! It can be audio, it can be film, it can be TV, that’s kind of what they’re doing. To still be playing Gwen Cooper after all this time is a treat!”

So, would Myles reprise Gwen in a new Torchwood TV series? “Of course I would!” she said. “I mean, when do you get the chance to play Gwen Cooper as an actor? It’s a gift from Russell T Davies to me, which I’m very honoured about.”

And will she return as Broadchurch’s baddie in series three? “I cannot say anything, sorry!” Myles told us with another big grin.

Until we wait for confirmation, you can catch Myles in new ITV period drama Victoria, where she’ll be starring alongside former Doctor Who assistant Jenna Coleman.

Speaking to us at the show’s rep carpet premiere, Myles, who will play Queen Victoria’s senior dresser, said her favourite moment on the show wasn’t acting alongside Coleman, but seeing the gigantic set for the first time: “We walked in and there it was – they’d built Buckingham Palace! It was incredible!”
