BARROWMAN HAVING TALKS FOR NEW TORCHWOOD TV SERIES

BARROWMAN HAVING TALKS FOR NEW TORCHWOOD TV SERIES

John Barrowman has said that Torchwood could return as a TV series.

“I have a phone conversation on Monday to see how we can get it back on television,” Zap2it quotes Barrowman as saying at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Of course this isn’t the first time Barrowman has claimed the show could be back over the years, but he sounds confident it could be more than wishful thinking this time: “The fans know me well enough, I’m only going to say it if I mean it and believe it.”

He added: “If you really believe in Torchwood, get the [upcoming Titan] comic. Get this series going, it’s like a Kickstarter. If you buy the comic, you’ll show your support … we need Captain Jack back on the screens.”

Doctor Who

DOCTOR WHO stars Pearl Mackie and Peter Capaldi have been spotted with beaming smiles as they continue filming for the show’s upcoming series.

The pair have been in Spain shooting scenes for the tenth post-revival run, and are reportedly now in the midst of putting together the second episode.

Peal, a previously unknown stage actress making her debut as new companion Bill, is seen in the shot wearing a multi-coloured vest top and a bow in her hair, with a jacket tied around her waist and a guitar-shaped necklace on.

Peter, meanwhile, also looks to be having a great time as he flashes a rare toothy grin while Pearl takes a selfie.

The pair were filming in Valencia at the City of Arts and Science Museum, although precise plot details have been kept quiet for now.

Doctor Who

Matt Lucas is back in the cast for the new series, although it’s not known if he too was on-location for this particular episode.

“Originally I was just in the Christmas special but now I find myself returning for more adventures,” he said in a behind-the-scenes clip last month.

Steven Moffat, who will make his exit as lead writer and executive producer at the end of series 10, said at the time of the re-casting: “Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the Tardis — and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around.

“One of the greatest comedy talents on Planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”

Ralf Little joins Doctor Who

DOCTOR WHO’S tenth series is shaping up to be its best yet, and hopes of another raucous ride have only grown stronger as The Royle Family’s Ralf Little has landed a guest spot in the BBC sci-fi drama.

The 36-year-old will begin filming alongside the Time Lord himself, Peter Capaldi, and his new companion Pearl Mackie in Cardiff imminently.
The Oldham-born actor, who shot to fame as Anthony Royle in the late nineties hit, has already delved into the franchise, having recorded the voice of political activist Guy Fawkes in video game Doctor Who: The Adventure Games.

As it stands, the comical star’s undisclosed character is shrouded in mystery, with no details suggesting whether he’ll be a villain or a hero as the BBC have promised to keep the details under wraps.
Little’s addition to the programme comes after Matt Lucas confirmed he was reprising his role as the bumbling Nardole, who viewers met in Christmas episode The Husbands Of River Song.

The 42-year-old gave fans, who have affectionately dubbed themselves Whovians, with a welcome update on-location from the show’s set, as filming for the highly-anticipated new cycle gets well underway.
Holding the camera in the short clip, Lucas spoke of his excitement at being back on the show, as well as revealing a glimpse of Capaldi and newcomer Mackie.

“It’s me here – not David Walliams, but the other one,” he said. “I’m ecstatic because it’s my first day back on Doctor Who.
“Originally I was just in the Christmas special but now I find myself returning for more adventures.”

He added: “I’m very excited and we’re here on location today, and look – can you see them? There’s the Doctor himself and young Bill.”After showing the leading duo from afar as they spoke to others, Matt continued: “And here we are. Where are we? Cardiff University, doing some running around.

“It’s nice, trying to keep me fit. Maybe I’ll lose some weight. My mother will be very happy.”
Steven Moffat, who will make his exit as lead writer and executive producer at the end of series 10, said at the time: “Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the Tardis — and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around.

“One of the greatest comedy talents on Planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”

Doctor Who returns to BBC One for a Christmas special later this year, before series 10 airs later in 2017.

Tom Baker joins cast of Star Wars TV show

Tom Baker joins cast of Star Wars TV show

Earlier today at Star Wars Celebration 2016, it was revealed that legendary Doctor Who actor Tom Baker is to provide his voice for a pivotal role in the upcoming season of Star Wars: Rebels.

The news was announced live to thousands of fans gathered in London’s ExCel Centre for Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 as a new trailer for the award-winning animated spin-off series was aired.
Baker, who played the Fourth Doctor in the hugely successful BBC time-traveling series from 1974 until 1981, voices a huge (literally!) character named Bendu, who is described as the ‘middle way of the Force’ – not Dark Side or Light Side, he’s ‘something else, a force of nature.’

Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni told a delighted audience that when he wrote this character, he ‘knew’ it had to be Tom Baker to voice it. As a child Filoni was a fan of The Fourth Doctor, describing Tom as ‘bigger than life.’
‘He’s so unique in everything he does,’ Filoni told host and Star Wars movie star Warwick Davis (Life’s Too Short), adding that Bendu is ‘a different kind of Force character/creature than we’ve had before,’ and will make a ‘big difference’ to the hit Disney show.
The character’s name may be familiar to uber fans of the space opera as the term ‘Jedi Bendu’ appeared in George Lucas’ early drafts of the Star Wars script back in the early 70s.

Dave Filoni also brought another Doctor to the Star Wars universe in 2012 when he cast Tenth Doctor actor David Tennant in the The Clone Wars animated series. The role won the Scottish actor an Emmy.
Fans were exclusively treated to the opening two episodes of Season Three of Star Wars: Rebels which featured Tom Baker in a role which dominates proceedings, and we can look forward to more of his presence in episodes to come.

But that wasn’t it for Star Wars aficionados. The new batch of episodes promises the return of The Phantom Menace’s Darth Maul and the introduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn – a moment which drew gasps from the thousands assembled in London’s ExCel.
Thrawn was a much-loved bad guy from the ‘Expanded Universe’, originally appearing the sequel trilogy Heir To The Empire by Timothy Zahn (who recorded a video message for fans, revealing a small TARDIS in his study!).
In Rebels, he’s voiced by actor Lars Mikkelsen, star of TV shows, The Killing, House of Cards, Sherlock and many, many more. Coincidentally, his brother Mads Mikkelsen stars in upcoming Star Wars stand alone film, Rogue One.
Star Wars: Rebels Season 3 airs later this year on Disney XD.

series 11: Matt Strevens to executive produce with Chris Chibnall

series 11: Matt Strevens to executive produce with Chris Chibnall

Joining Chris Chibnall among Doctor Who series 11’s executive producers is Misfits alum Matt Strevens…

Chris Chibnall will not be the lone executive producer of Doctor Who when Steven Moffat departs as showrunner after the 2017 Christmas special. The BBC has just announced on Twitter that Matt Strevens will be joining Chibnall at the helm of Doctor Who series 11.
Here’s the Tweet (which, for unknown reasons, has since been deleted)…

— Doctor Who Official (@bbcdoctorwho) July 13, 2016

Matt Strevens began his TV career by script editing for EastEnders back in 2004. He then became a producer for The Bill, overseeing 28 episodes of the iconic police series before moving on to the restaurant drama Raw in 2010.

After Raw came 8 episodes of the teen show Skins, followed by 16 instalments of Channel 4’s unruly-youngsters-with-superpowers spectacular Misfits.
Next, Strevens produced An Adventure In Space And Time, the wonderful TV movie about Doctor Who’s origins that tied into the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Since then, he’s worked on the legal drama Silk, London-set series Capital and Russell T Davies’ Channel 4 show Cucumber.

Strevens said this to GamesRadar around the time of An Adventure In Space And Time…
“I grew up watching [Doctor Who]. My Doctor was Tom Baker and then Peter Davison. I’m a huge Peter Davison fan. I remember the 20th anniversary being The Five Doctors and Richard Hurndall playing the part of the original. And I’m a fan of the reboot as well. I really love what Russell and now Steven have done with it.”

Right this second, Mr Strevens is replying to congratulatory messages on his Twitter page. It’s official, then, even though the BBC did delete their official announcement.

We look forward to seeing what Strevens and Chibnall do with the show. And we’ll bring you more Doctor Who news as we hear it.

Peter Capaldi To Have A Slighty Changed Look For Series 10

Peter Capaldi To Have A Slighty Changed Look For Series 10

Does Peter Capaldi have a (slightly) different look in Doctor Who series 10?

A new Instagram snap hints at a tweak in his costume…

As the long dark night of our Doctor Who-less year drags on we’ll happily descend on any details about 2017’s series 10 that are thrown our way, so this new set picture of Peter Capaldi signing autographs while in costume has nicely tided us over for a bit.

And interestingly, there may actually be some new details in it – it looks to us like the Twelfth Doctor will be sporting a SLIGHTLY different look in next year’s adventures, with a slightly longer dark coat (similar to the one he wore in series 9 finale Hell Bent) and a slightly baggier, grey hoodie (whereas previously he’s mainly stuck with blue).

Also, the combination of the hoodie with his full suit (and white shirt) is a first, with the actor previously only opting for the extra insulation when wearing a T-shirt. God, he must be toasty right now.So in summary: Peter Capaldi now (probably) has a marginally different costume, and while we’re waiting for Doctor Who for a long time we’ll analyse any tiny detail to try and find out more. Good to know.
Doctor Who will return to BBC1 this Christmas and in 2017 for a new series.

Matt Smith denies rumours that he is returning to Doctor Who

Matt Smith denies rumours that he’s returning to Doctor Who

Recently there have been all sorts of rumours milling around that former Doctor Matt Smith could be returning to Doctor Who to replace Peter Capaldi, after series showrunner Steven Moffat told the Mirror that the actor was “quite open about how much he misses it, and how much he wishes he hadn’t left.”

Of course this caused feverish speculation among all quarters of fandom as to whether Smith could (or should return), but now the man himself has commented on the idea – and it’s a great big denial.
“No it’s not true,” Smith said in a Guardian webchat, before adding that reports of his nostalgia for the series were more accurate.

“I miss everything. I miss Steven, I miss Karen, I miss Arthur, I miss Jenna. I miss time travelling. And I miss my friends in Cardiff.
“BUT onward goes the march. It’s Peter’s Tardis now. And I love what he does. So I watch as a fan.”

Not to worry though, guys – Smith does have some ideas for who the next Doctor COULD be, and they’re pretty interesting…

Matt Smith can currently be seen in Unreachable at the Royal Court, London

Series 10 filming sees Matt Lucas reunited with Peter Capaldi in Cardiff

Series 10 filming sees Matt Lucas reunited with Peter Capaldi in Cardiff

The Little Britain actor returns as Nardole opposite Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who.

Peter Capaldi and Matt Lucas are back together again on the set of Doctor Who in Cardiff.
The pair, along with new companion, Pearl Mackie, have been filming the tenth series of the BBC One show around the Cardiff University buildings in Cathays Park.

Last night Little Britain star Lucas tweeted that he was back in Cardiff with a bit of a sore throat, but was seeing The Doctor first thing. The comedy class act is back as bumbling character Nardole, who first made an appearance in the 2015 Christmas special.

Luckily, Lucas is wrapped up warm in Nardole’s signature dufflecoat, which should keep him warm. The dufflecoat seems more appropriate when you think back to the snowy winter wonderland created on location last week.

But, as always happens in Doctor Who, there’s a lot of running around, and in these scenes the Time Lord and his chum seem in a bit of a hurry.

This series of Doctor Who will be the final overseen by writer Steven Moffat, who will be replaced next year by Broadchurch creator, Chris Chibnall.

Filming of the BBC sci-fi-adventure show follows Sherlock and Doctor Who spin-off, Class, which have been filming in Cardiff during the past few months.

Doctor Who Magazine 501

DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE ISSUE 501

DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE’S CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE IN ISSUE 501 –
A SOUVENIR EDITION DEVOTED TO THE FOURTH DOCTOR, TOM BAKER!

Following the spectacular 500th issue, Doctor Who Magazine is continuing its celebrations with an issue dedicated entirely to Tom Baker and the Fourth Doctor’s era of Doctor Who.

Tom Baker: The Ultimate Interview is an extravaganza split into several gripping parts, in which Tom talks about life, death and, of course, Doctor Who…

“Life is too short to be dull. Be interesting. Because not very much else matters does it? In large areas of our lives, hardly anything matters at all. I mean, nothing can beat being with loving friends, and a few wines, and a few beers, and a few lies, and a few yarns. And to still be adored after 40-odd years… yeah that’s the life. Maybe I’m the longest-serving actor, in the whole history of actors, who’s actually still, 40-odd years later, adored for the same part and enjoying it in the same way. When I get sent messages from middle-aged men… or from the wives of middle-aged men, who say, ‘Tell Mr Baker he cannot imagine how important he was to my beloved husband when he was a boy’… it moves me deeply to think about it. I was just going to work. I didn’t know, to begin with, how far-reaching this role would be. I was aware of the excitement, and the generosity, and the affection of the fans, but how could I ever have dreamed of all this?”

The interview extravaganza is split into seven gripping parts: The Unbreakable Tom Baker, The Insatiable Tom Baker, The Impeccable Tom Baker (with June Hudson), The Irrepressible Tom Baker, The Unstoppable Tom Baker (with Louise Jameson, John Leeson and Geoffrey Beevers), The Unforgettable Tom Baker and The Irreplaceable Tom Baker.

Also featured in the magazine is Part One of brand-new comic strip The Pestilent Heart, an extended Gallifrey Guardian reporting on the latest news from the set of the new series, and DWM‘s Issue 500 celebrations, competitions and the much-anticipated Cave of 500 Eyes answers.

The collectable souvenir edition, available from 30 June and priced £5.99, comes in a polybag containing four amazing art cards, two classic mini-posters, and a massive multi-Doctor poster.

Doctor Who Magazine 501 is on sale from Thursday 30 June 2016, price £5.99.

Could Matt Smith Be Heading Back Into The TARDIS?

Could Matt Smith Be Heading Back Into The TARDIS?

Matt Smith as The Doctor in the Doctor Who Christmas special: 'The Time of the Doctor'

Steven Moffat has hinted Smith could be the first of the Doctors to return to the Tardis – and the actor has made no secret of his desire to return.

Matt Smith may be about to travel back in time to play Doctor Who again.
Show boss Steven Moffat has hinted Smith could be the first of the 12 Doctors to return to the Tardis after regenerating.

Matt, who stars as Prince Phillip in Netflix’s big-budget royal drama The Crown in November, has made no secret of his desire to return, saying last year: “They will ask me back one day, won’t they?”
Matt’s successor Peter Capaldi has been tipped to bow out after the next series, currently being filmed for release in 2017.

And Moffat, who is leaving after his sixth season next year has said Matt is “quite open about how much he misses it, and how much he wishes he hadn’t left”.

Asked by a fan in April if he would play the Doctor again, Matt replied: “I really want to.”
The 32-year-old actor was the 11th Doctor from 2009 to 2013.

Since quitting, Matt has appeared in action movie Terminator Genisys with Arnold Schwarzenegger, comedy horror film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies plus several theatre productions. Moffat admitted Matt’s decision to leave three years ago was a “tough time”.

He added: “Matt, who was a friend and ally, was leaving. I couldn’t get him to stay. It felt like everything was blowing up around me.”
