DOCTOR WHO: THE COMPANION CHRONICLES – THE FIRST DOCTOR VOLUME 1: RELEASED

DOCTOR WHO: THE COMPANION CHRONICLES – THE FIRST DOCTOR VOLUME 1: RELEASED

Synopsis:

A new four-disc release featuring four tales from readers associated with the First Doctor era, and a second actor.

The Sleeping Blood by Martin Day:

When the Doctor falls ill, Susan is forced to leave the safety of the TARDIS behind. Exploring a disused research centre in search of medical supplies, she becomes embroiled in the deadly plans of a terrorist holding an entire world to ransom – and the soldier sent to stop him.

The Unwinding World by Ian Potter:

Office life is tough, the commute is a grind, nothing works quite as well as you’d like. Vicki seems to remember things being better once, before the little flat. It’s time she put some excitement back in her life. It’s just a shame the Doctor can’t help.

The Founding Fathers by Simon Guerrier:

The TARDIS lands in Leicester Square in the summer of 1762. When the Doctor, Steven and Vicki find themselves locked out of the TARDIS, only one man can possibly help them. But the American, Benjamin Franklin, has problems of his own…

The Locked Room by Simon Guerrier:

Steven Taylor left the Doctor and the TARDIS to become king of an alien world. But it’s now many years since he gave up the throne and went to live in a cell in the mountains, out of sight of his people. He’s not escaping his past – quite the opposite, in fact. As his granddaughter, Sida, is about to discover…

DOCTOR WHO FAN EXPLAINS LONDON UNDERGROUND CLOSURE IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE

DOCTOR WHO FAN EXPLAINS LONDON UNDERGROUND CLOSURE IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE

Tufnell Park Tube station is about to shut down for nine months, but this Doctor Who-themed whiteboard notice makes everything better.

Someone working at Tufnell Park really, really likes Doctor Who.

The London Underground station will be closed for nine months from 8th June, as the station’s rickety lifts (which, reassuringly, fail once a week according to TfL) are replaced.

It’s OK though, because one smart TfL employee has found a great way to explain this commuting delay in space and time: through the medium of Doctor Who.

‘Regeneration’ sounds so much better than ‘engineering works’ doesn’t it?

There’s a new Doctor Who game on the blocks…

There’s a new Doctor Who game on the blocks…

We’re delighted to confirm there’ll be even more ways to enjoy the world of Doctor Who very soon! That’s because iconic elements from the Doctor’s universe will be included in LEGO Dimensions, the upcoming entertainment experience that merges physical brick building with interactive console gameplay.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One later this year with Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as Clara, all set for their greatest adventures yet in an epic series that also features Michelle Gomez as Missy and Games of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams. But the fact the TARDIS is currently off our screens hasn’t meant the world of Doctor Who has slowed down…

This latest announcement comes shortly after the show began broadcasting in India for the first time ever and of course, the Doctor Who Fan Show launched in May with Christel Dee presenting the fast, fun, weekly round-up. The Time Lord’s latest decade of heroics has also been celebrated in New York recently and last week we revealed that there’ll be a major Doctor Who panel at this July’s Comic-Con with Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez, lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat and executive producer Brian Minchin all appearing at the San Diego event.

We’ll have more big news for you soon, both about the ongoing production of the new series and the broader world of Doctor Who!

THE LISTENERS: DOCTOR WHO – 100

THE LISTENERS: DOCTOR WHO – 100

With our main Doctor Who range seeing its 200th release this month, we go back exactly halfway for the June Listeners title…

Doctor Who – 100 is the chosen Listeners title this month, available until 1st July on Download for £2.99, with Colin Baker and the much-missed Maggie Stables as the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn:

Four one-part stories:

1. 100 BC by Jacqueline Rayner

The Doctor and Evelyn arrive in Rome, 101 BC, approximately, October. They meet a young lady of 19, Aurelia. She mentions her husband – Julius Caesar. Evelyn is excited, but her excitement soon turns to confusion. Surely you can’t heal a wound in time with just a bit of sticking plaster?

2. My Own Private Wolfgang by Robert Shearman

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Born in 1756, a veritable wunderkind – playing music for the crowned heads of Europe as an infant, composing by the time he was five years old. But it’s tempting to wonder whether his amazing longevity has overshadowed his creative genius – would Mozart’s music be better respected, maybe, if he’d died as a young man? Would he be a legend of music, rather than of scientific curiosity, if he’d never lived to compose the film score for the remake of The Italian Job?

3. Bedtime Story by Joseph Lidster

Once upon a time… Jacob Williams is going to tell the tale of Sleeping Beauty but he realises he has told that one too many times so, instead, tells of how he once met this man called the Doctor… It’s a tale of love and death and a family with a terrifying secret…

4. The 100 Days of the Doctor By Paul Cornell

Someone has assassinated the Doctor. And he only has 100 days to find out who did it.

Discussion on Doctor Who – 100 will happen on a dedicated Big Finish forum thread here. If you’ve never heard the release before, or even if you’re well familiar with it, all opinions and observations are very welcome!

Doctor Who – The Secret History is the two hundredth title in Big Finish’s main range of Doctor Who releases. An exclusive preview of episode one will be available soon to subscribers to our newsletter, while as ever, subscribers to the range not only get significant money saving on the titles they buy, but also free PDF scripts, extended extras on download, and four exclusive Doctor Who – Subscriber Short Trips a year!
