DOCTOR WHO: BIG BANG GENERATION

DOCTOR WHO: BIG BANG GENERATION

Synopsis

“I’m an archaeologist, but probably not the one you were expecting.”

Christmas 2015, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Imagine everyone’s surprise when a time portal opens up in Sydney Cove. Imagine their shock as a massive pyramid now sits beside the Harbour Bridge, inconveniently blocking Port Jackson and glowing with energy. Imagine their fear as Cyrrus ‘the mobster’ Globb, Professor Horace Jaanson and an alien assassin called Kik arrive to claim the glowing pyramid. Finally imagine everyone’s dismay when they are followed by a bunch of con artists out to spring their greatest grift yet.

This gang consists of Legs (the sexy comedian), Dog Boy (providing protection and firepower), Shortie (handling logistics), Da Trowel (in charge of excavation and history) and their leader, Doc (busy making sure the universe isn’t destroyed in an explosion that makes the Big Bang look like a damp squib).

And when someone accidentally reawakens The Ancients of the Universe – which, Doc reckons, wasn’t the wisest or best-judged of actions – things get a whole lot more complicated…

The Guns of Malgar once defended their planetoid from any who strayed too close; just one gun could obliterate an entire star fleet.

The Malgarians are known as a vicious, belligerent species – so when the TARDIS brings the Doctor and Peri to their homeworld, they are puzzled to be greeted by a pacifistic population.

Peri assumes the Doctor has just got his facts wrong, but he is reluctant to accept the Malgarians’ uncharacteristic behaviour. What lies behind it, and what is the secret of the Sisters of Serenity?

FANS FURY AT DOCTOR WHO FESTIVAL TICKET PRICE

FANS FURY AT DOCTOR WHO FESTIVAL TICKET PRICE

Doctor Who festival

Lots of viewers outraged at the BBC for charging £165 for a family ticket to the official Doctor Who Festival.

Fans have hit out in anger at the cost of tickets for a Doctor Who festival – with a family ticket costing £165.

Some have accused organisers of charging “tourist prices” for the event in London, which will see Peter Capaldi, who plays the Doctor, and show boss Steven Moffat meeting fans at the three-day event.

There will also be theatre shows and exhibitions of props, while viewers hope to grapple with enemies such as the Daleks during the November event at the ExCel in East London.

But fans of the BBC show, which is largely filmed in South Wales, have been angered by the cost, which includes £285 for the deluxe family package – which gets them front row seats, a brochure and goody bag.

Standard single tickets are £65 for adults and £30 for children.

On website Doctor Who TV, fan Tony Simmons posted: “Was going to take my two young nephews to see the Tardis, but think I’ll pass on the £210 cost.”

Dad of two Paul Whittles, 35, from Bournemouth, groaned: “It seems very expensive compared to other attractions. I think we will give this a miss at this price.”

And Michael Jacobs, 34, from Bath, said: “Who is gonna be able to afford this? It’s a lot of money for something made by the BBC.”

Pensioner Burgess Shale complained about there being no cheaper tickets for older fans.

She said: “This is my reward for five decades of fandom – economic exclusion.”

BBC Worldwide said the prices were the best they could offer, but refused to say what proportion was profit.

“The Festival is a one-off, full-day event that will give every ticket-holder access to not just the exclusive behind-the-scenes workings of the modern show, but also an opportunity to hear from Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat, and many others from the cast and crew in person,” it added.

But MP Andrew Bridgen agreed with fans.

He told the Daily Mirror: “It shows the BBC, like Doctor Who, are from another planet.”
